Top government, police and city officials welcomed to Pattaya a Chinese
delegation that will help lead the restoration of a Bangkok temple.
Culture Minister Sonthaya Kunplome, Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and Chonburi
Police Superintendent Maj. Gen. Khatcha Thatsart met with representatives
from Qingdao, China and the Thai-Chinese Cultural and Economic Association
Dec. 15.
Pattaya recently opened an office in Qingdao following a visit there to
discuss Nong Nooch Tropical Garden’s participating in the 2014 World Plant
exhibition. Delegation leader Yuan Zhongxue, director of State Research
Center for Tire Processing, said this reciprocal visit was intended to
further strengthen the ties between the two cities.
Itthiphol presented the delegation with the key to the city.
Engineers from Qingdao are expected to arrive in Thailand next year to help
lead the renovation of Wat Arun Raj Wararam, the “Temple of Light” in
Bangkok. The temple’s last overhaul was in 1789.
