Officials unveil the
cultural-exchange agreement at the Space Krenovation Park in Sriracha.
China will invest 1.5 billion baht in a
satellite-technology center in Sriracha as part of a cultural-exchange
agreement signed in February.
Chonburi Deputy Gov. Adisak Thepart March 29 signed the contract for
expansion of the Space Krenovation Park at Sriracha’s Thaichote Satellite
Control Station. Opened in December, the park supports related research,
develops innovation, and adds value to products in related businesses such
as spare parts for space missions, batteries, mapping, high resolution
satellite images, as well as developing the potential of geo-informatics and
space technology under the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The Chinese-funded project, made possible by the Feb. 8
signing of a pact with the Chinese Culture and Economic Association, will
focus on the creation of a satellite-based natural disaster warning system.
The Geospatial Disaster-Monitoring Assessment and Prediction System will
monitor the weather and the management of disasters and agriculture through
the Geospatial Information Industry and Service Outsourcing Base at the
space park. The Chinese will jointly research and develop products, managing
and applying space technology and geo-informatics to make the space park
Thailand’s main satellite-technology base.
Officials said future investment of 30 billion baht is possible. (CPRD)
