The owner of a Pattaya pawn shop apologized to neighbors and rebuilt
a public sidewalk he’d ripped out to install a parking lot.
Sitthiwti Tangthanakiat of the Easy Money shop on Third Road invited Pattaya
City Councilman Sanit Boonmachai, Public Health and Environment Director
Suthee Thupnonhee and Jeerawat Plukjai, president of Chumsai Community, to
witness reconstruction of 15 meters of sidewalk he’d removed to make room
for parking.
Neighbors had howled about the pawn broker’s appropriation of public
property and city hall came down hard last month, ordering Sitthiwti to
rebuild the sidewalk within a week.
Having lost a great deal of face, the store owners apologized profusely to
city officials and neighbors, but also took the opportunity to invite them
to a gold shop he planned to open on July 5.
