About 300 people worked to restore the marine environment around
Koh Khram to honor HM the King for his recent birthday.
Vice Adm. Weerapan Sukgon, head of the Royal Thai Navy’s First Area
Command, opened the Dec. 12 activity at Koh Kham Undersea Park.
Civil affairs chief Capt. Chamnan Puangpech said the First Naval Area
Command collaborated with private and government sectors to hold
activities to pay homage to HM the King and raise awareness about marine
conservation.
Activities included planting coral reefs and trees, releasing clownfish
into the sea, cleaning beaches and the sea bed.
Participating were employees from Viny Thai Co., IRPC Co., Grow Energy
Co., and Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Co.; members of the
AC Diving Club; and students from Burapha and Kasetsart universities.
Weerapan said that, in addition to defending the kingdom, the navy is
responsible for protecting Thailand’s marine ecosystem, which sits at
the heart of the food, energy, transportation and tourism industries.
