Mantra Restaurant & Bar held a New Zealand wine dinner on Friday the 30th May.
The guest wines were from award-winning Mud House New Zealand and representing
the winery was MJ Loza, the general manager for Accolade Wines. He gave a very
short introduction and welcomed the guests as they enjoyed the ice cold Mud
House Sauvignon Blanc and tapas.
Mud House was established in 1996 and has wines from Marlborough, the Waipara
Valley and Central Otago Bendigo on the southern island in New Zealand.
Executive Chef Leonard Faust.
The five course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Leonard Faust started with
chilled fresh white asparagus & salted-chili fried prawns accompanied with the
Mud House Sauvignon Blanc, which had a grapefruit acidity yet was bursting with
tropical flavours. This was followed by a green melon gazpacho & marinated cream
cheese paired with the tangy Mud House Pinot Gris with echoes of nectarine and
spicy pears.
The main course was the delicious pan-roasted French duck breast with dark
cherry & martini reduction, and the perfect accompaniment was the Hay Maker
Merlot.
There was also a choice of the pan fried snow fish fillet served with the Mud
House Sauvignon Blanc.
This was followed by an assortment of cheeses washed down with the dark fruit
and spicy oak Mud House Pinot Noir, then a sweet finish with chocolate lemon
meringue with cinnamon, honey sauce & brandy served with the Mud House Riesling,
which featured citrus and lemon and the sweetness of honey.
Another very successful wine dinner for Mantra, and good to experience these
young but refreshing and delicious wines from Mud House.
