Members of the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association were given an
overview of the tourist court, how it works, and were reminded that it is
still an important remedy for tourists in need.
Region 2 Chief Judge Wattana Wittayakul and Pattaya Courthouse Chief Judge
Apichart Thepnu lectured the local businessmen on the “Laws and dispute
settlement of cases among tourists”. The June 24 seminar took place at the
Long Beach Hotel.
The judicial branch also wanted to stress how important it is for business
people to be learned on matters regarding tourism cases during ASEAN.
Pattaya’s tourism court is one of a kind in Thailand, and all eyes are on
how well it works and whether similar courts can be set up in other tourist
areas throughout the kingdom. Pattaya was chosen for the pilot project due
to its growth, and its importance to Thailand’s international tourism.
Legal cases involving tourists are quite different from normal cases since
most tourists stays are short. Cases and follow-ups need to be handled with
more expediency than normal cases.
