Welcome back Miss Thailand World

Cindy Burbridge from Pattaya, Miss Thailand World for 1996, returned to Pattaya last week from the Miss World Contest in Bangalore, India. Although she was a hot favorite among the international press, alas, she did not get the crown.

Just the same, Pattaya Mail wishes to congratulate Cindy on her fantastic performance in front of an international audience. Even though we, along with many journalists, can not totally understand the decision of the jury, we are happy that we did not lose Cindy to the “World”. She can now stay in Pattaya with her family and friends, and will only need to fulfill her duties within the borders of Thailand. At least she will be able to do so as soon as she returns from London where she went with her mother last week to honor a grand opening.
Before she left, Cindy paid a visit to Pattaya Mail to talk about her experiences in India. Cindy told us that winning the Miss Thailand World contest was the greatest experience so far in her young life. She said that despite of all the demonstrations, and the resulting tight security, she and the other contestants had a fantastic time there. Since the bikini contest was held in the Seychelles, Cindy and her friends were able to get in a few days of holiday amidst all the hard work. Her golden suntan proved her point.
Cindy also said that there was a lot of camaraderie amongst the girls from all over the world and that there was almost no jealousy involved. Many of the girls, the new Miss World amongst them, could hardly speak English, but were still able to have good com-munication, even though at times it meant doing so with hands and feet.
Cindy went on to say that the big event in Bangalore was well organized, and no one seemed to mind the short periods of rain that fell upon them. Since the contest was held in an open air stadium, most of the audience used caps that they were given as gifts to keep their heads from getting wet. Pat Burbridge, who accompanied her daughter to India, told Pattaya Mail that it was quite a sight, seeing all those people in evening dresses wearing red sports caps.
Pattaya Mail would like to welcome back the beautiful, eye catching Cindy and would like her to know that for us she is not only the most beautiful girl in Thailand, but the most charming, well mannered and moderate girl in the world as well.
