Cliffters Rock n’ for Charity
Johnny Reimers leads The
Cliffters through a night of exciting entertainment at the Moon River Pub.
That popular sixties band, The Cliffters, proved they
haven’t lost a beat as they jammed the night away for an enthused audience
while raising a bundle of money for charity at the Moon River Pub on Monday,
December 30.
The Cliffters, for many years heralded as “the” band from Scandinavia,
enthralled the audience with a montage of their favorite tunes as they
helped the Rotary Club of Jomtien/Pattaya raise money for Father Ray
Brennan’s many charitable organizations, including the Pattaya Orphanage. At
the beginning of the concert, Thai Garden Resort General Manager Michael
Vogt took the stage and introduced Father Ray, who graciously accepted a
cheque in the amount of 47,500 baht.
On this special night of charity The Moon River Pub was filled with local
celebrities, including Pattaya’s own Miss Thailand World 1996 Cindy
Burbridge. It was soon learned that the local heroine was celebrating her
18th birthday on the same night, and she was called up on stage to receive a
birthday cake and a bouquet of flowers.
After the break, The Cliffters got the crowd jumping with more Rock n’ Roll
favorites, much to the delight of not only their established fans, but many
new ones as well. Young and old filled every corner of the room, dancing the
night away. By the end of the concert, the cheering crowd screamed for more.
During the show, a group of Scandinavians had the great idea to pass the hat
to collect more money for charity from the audience. Miss Thailand, known
for her big heart for children, gave plenty, as well as almost everyone in
the audience. Johnny Reimers, leader of the band, even “paid” 1,000 baht out
of his own pocket just so he could play one more song (which was, of course,
what everyone wanted). By the time it was over, an additional 15,500 baht
had been raised, making the grand total for the night over 63,000 baht for
the orphans at Father Ray’s home.
The Rotary Club of Jomtien/Pattaya and Michael Vogt, the organizers of this
fund-raising event, wish to take this opportunity to thank all their
supporters again for their help and generosity. They have promised to
organize similar events in the future.
Miss Thailand World 1996,
Cindy Burbridge, who celebrated her 18th birthday the same evening, was
surprised with a big “hooray” of 200 guests, a “Happy Birthday” song from
the Cliffters, flowers and a birthday cake from Michael and Marion Vogt.
