TNT moves into the top
three logistics providers worldwide
Acquisition of US-based CTI Logistx further
strengthens TNT’s leadership in automotive logistics
TPG has announced the acquisition of logistics provider
CTI LOGISTX from rail and shipping company CSX Corporation, a stock-listed
company in the US. As a result of this acquisition, TPG will further
strengthen its leadership in automotive logistics and move into the top
three largest logistics companies worldwide. TPG has paid USD 650 million
for CTI LOGISTX, which had annual revenues of around EUR 500 million in
1999. CTI represents the largest acquisition TPG has undertaken since its
listing in 1998.
CTI is one of the leading third-party logistics
providers in North America. CTI offers a strong sector fit with TPG, with
its brand TNT, in automotive, electronics and FMCG, and adds an excellent
complementary customer base.
TPG’s CEO Ad Scheepbouwer states, “We could not
have asked for a better fit with our TNT Logistics operations. We have
been searching for opportunities to strengthen our logistics operations in
North America for some time. CTI is the ideal partner in terms of its
strong North American presence, vast experience in the automotive
logistics industry and expert management team. We are delighted with this
acquisition which is a significant step in realizing our ambitious growth
plans.”
CTI was established in 1980 as a dedicated contract
carrier. Its key capabilities fall into three categories: transportation
management, logistics consulting and process re-engineering. The
company’s headquarters are based in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, and has
a presence in over 26 US states, Canada, South America and Europe. CTI had
revenues of EUR 500 million in 1999 from over 100 million transactions.
Scheepbouwer said, “CTI provides excellent
opportunities for future growth. CTI’s warehousing-based value-added
capabilities combine perfectly with TNT’s existing strength in
logistics. Its goals and strategy are consistent with ours and its strong
emphasis on operational excellence is exactly in line with our own. CTI
also has a high degree of experienced and skilled people which are a
welcome addition to our management and staff.”
Mr. David Kulik, Chairman and CEO of CTI and his
management team will remain in charge of CTI. The headquarters of CTI will
remain in Jacksonville, Florida.
