Some say the retro-psychedelic look is back, but perhaps it never left!

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! World of Entertainment Pattaya is inviting everyone to come try the latest activity from America, “Spin Art”.

In 1962, after several attempts to perfect the machine, a new art was born on the boardwalk of Wildwood, New Jersey. Since then, ‘Spin Art’ has become a favorite for fairs, carnivals fundraisers or just about any gathering. You don’t need to attend a special course in fine arts from Silaprakorn University or obtain a degree from the London School of Fine Arts to create this unique piece of artwork. All you need is a wild and crazy imagination.

The method is really simple: splash some paint on the card (8 colors to choose from), turn on the motor (which spins at 1,400 RPM), stand back and watch your own one of a kind psychedelic work of art appear before you eyes! No two are the same! Whether you are 7 or 70, Spin Art is perfect 100% fun for everyone.

Watch out Picasso, stand back Renoir and all the rest of you great artists, Spin Art is here to stay.

The Elves have landed!

In a burst of colour and sound, the true protectors of Christmas landed at St. Andrews International School. The “ELVES IN BLACK” had come to ask the children the all-important question “Is the spirit of Christmas alive here at St. Andrews?”

Santa’s reindeer

The children responded to this with a resounding “YES” that echoed around the school hard court and could be heard as far away as Ban Chang!

The first signs of Christmas “EIB” witnessed were the little ones from Rainbow Playhouse twinkling onto the stage as “Christmas Stars” led by their enthusiastic teacher, Miss Jennie. Santa came to town, complete with Rudolph and his other Reindeers and the Reception class made sure the St. Andrew’s “Christmas Tree” was beautifully decorated.

What a beautiful Christmas tree!

After checking other details the “EIB” found further evidence that Christmas was alive and well at St. Andrews International school. Year 1 provided a sumptuous Christmas feast complete with plum pudding and crackers, while the Year 2 children were only too happy to provide the gifts and friendship that go hand in hand at Christmas time.

Christmas would not be complete without the traditional “Christmas Story”. This year the story was beautifully recreated by the children in Years 3 and 4.

Adding a more upbeat approach to Christmas, the Year 5 and 6 classes amazed the “EIB” with their “Christmas Rap”, and finally, students from Year 7 and 8 classes were MAGIC as the “ELVES IN BLACK” and for keeping the whole show together.

An atmosphere of festivity filled St. Andrews International School after the “ELVES IN BLACK” concert as everyone had the opportunity to partake of lot’s of yummy mince pies and other Christmas goodies provided by the PTG. It was the perfect way to end such a wonderful evening of entertainment.

The children, parents, teachers and staff of St. Andrews International School certainly DO have the spirit of Christmas, and would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a joyous New Year!

International School of the Regents Christmas Concert - A Musical Treat

The International School of the Regents held its Christmas concert at the Cholchan Pattaya Resort, an event that provided the school’s Department of Music with an opportunity to showcase the wealth and diversity of the musical talent that runs throughout the student body. Playing to an audience that included the whole school, along with parent and friends, the school orchestras, band and choirs entertained with a varied program of festive, classical and popular music.

The evening began with the complete school orchestra playing His Majesty the King’s Anthem. The Concert Band, the String Orchestra and the Regency Singers followed before the Training Band showed how capable beginners at the school are becoming, with the young musicians ably performing a Mozart melody, ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Jingle Bells’. The Primary Choir, delivering a beautiful rendition of the modern Christmas Classic ‘Walking in the Air’ completed the first half of the program and left the stage to rapturous applause.

Performances during the second half of the concert reflected the diversity of the musical styles at the ISR; a saxophone sextet played a medley of festive tunes before leaving the stage to the Year 10 Improvisation Group - a trio of students on guitar, tenor saxophone and electric piano who improvised on a theme by jazz musician Miles Davis.

One of the more unusual items of the evening was the singing of an Estonian song by the ISR Chorus. The school has important connections with Estonia, and has six Estonian students currently on the register. The sentiment of the lyric was one of looking toward a brighter future, and recalled the days when the Estonians kept their spirits up by singing their way through the revolution that finally freed the nation from communist oppression.

The ISR Concert Band, in vigorous form, gave a rousing performance of the ‘Star Wars’ theme before the audience was invited to join in with the finale - the seasonal ‘Hark the Herald Angles Sing’ - and so rounded off a thoroughly entertaining event.

Christmas Fair a success at the International School of the Regents

Judging by the crowds attending, the ISR Christmas Fair is establishing itself as a popular seasonal event and there was plenty on offer to keep both children and adults amused. Face painting, hoopla, coloring competitions and a coconut shy were just some of the attractions on offer, whilst a cafe proved a popular haven for those needing a break from the bustle, and craft stalls provided an opportunity to do some last minute Christmas shopping.

In true Thai style - Santa arrives at the ISR in a tuk-tuk!

Most importantly Santa was present in his grotto, although his arrival at the event must have caused a few raised eyebrows! Having forsaken his reindeer for the occasion, the man of the moment turned up in true Thai style - a balloon bedecked tuk-tuk!
