Chulalongkorn Day, October 23, is a national holiday and
ceremonies were performed throughout Thailand to mark the day that the great
King passed away in the year 1910.
King Chulalongkorn was instrumental in modernizing the
Kingdom of Thailand and is credited with many visionary accomplishments,
including the establishment of the Council of State, setting up 12 different
ministries which reorganized the government administrative system and the
abolition of slavery.
King Chulalongkorn’s other ambitious achievements
included establishing trade and diplomatic contact with foreign governments,
and introducing revolutionary changes throughout the kingdom regarding
police security, a postal system, hospitals, and railroads.
The great King also was instrumental in maintaining the
nation’s sovereignty during a critical period in history when powerful
nations were expanding their influence and colonizing neighboring countries.
Local ceremonies were held at the Chulalongkorn monument
in front of the Banglamung district offices. Hundreds of community
representative, business owners, students and press were present to pay
their respects to a great king.

Marriott Resort & Spa celebrates 2nd anniversary
“Who would have thought 25 years ago that Pattaya would become an internally acclaimed resort?” says Bill Heinecke
Elfi Seitz
“Take a minute and look around you. What do you see? A
world-class five star hotel with an international brand name, a professional
Mandara Spa, fine restaurants including Benihana where every meal is a show,
one of Thailand’s best shopping malls filled with international retail
names and a highly successful Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum,” said
Bill Heinecke of the Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa.
“I
want to thank all who put their trust in me and helped my dream come
true,” said Bill Heinecke during his speech at the Pattaya Marriott Resort
& Spa.
As he spoke, Bill was standing on the very spot that
exactly 25 years ago, he had just leased for the total sum of 10 million
baht. At that time the property contained a few run-down bungalows in the
middle of a large, but not very attractive garden. Many friends and
associates told the young 29-year-old businessman that it was madness to
invest in a place like Pattaya. But Bill Heinecke was not discouraged and
set out to prove that Pattaya was a good place for investment.
Kevin
J. Beauvais, chief operation officer of the Royal Garden Resort Group, gave
a thoughtful speech concerning the company’s role in the community.
Bill said, “I want to thank all who put their trust in
me and helped my dream come true, especially my management team. They have
put such effort into making the Marriott Resort & Spa a great success.
This team makes the difference on a daily basis by delivering service which
is warm and caring, proactive, thoughtful, genuine and personal.”
Supadit
Maneratjarusri, Executive Director of Marriott Resort & Spa is proud of
his and his team’s achievements.
A second anniversary was also being celebrated to
commemorate the brand change from the Royal Garden Resort to the Pattaya
Marriott Resort & Spa two years ago.
Kevin J. Beauvais, chief operation officer of the Royal
Garden Resort Group, also reminded everyone of the launch of the project
“Spirit to serve our Community”. This project will raise money to help
poor families send their children to school.

Suwansansee (left) and Khornchanok Podrummit (right) of the YWCA enjoyed the
evening’s festivities.
After the speeches, the guests were treated to a
delicious buffet at the hotel’s gardens and a nice demonstration of all
the different facilities at the resort.
Hard Rock Caf้é celebrates 2nd birthday with huge party
Two-year-old ‘Rock’ is no baby when it comes to style and service
Suchada Tupchai
Two years have flown by since the birth of the Hard Rock
Cafe in Pattaya. Whilst the chain has blossomed around the world into 33
countries in its 21-year global history, the Hard Rock Cafe in Pattaya
brings a unique style mixed with local flavors and international standards.
Hard
Rock Hotel GM Andrew Khoo (2nd left) invited VIPs to join him on stage to
cut the huge birthday cake. No ordinary knife was suitable for this
auspicious occasion, though, and a magnificent 2-foot saber was brought out
to slice the cake.
On Wednesday, October 15, Hard Rock Hotel management and
staff hosted members of the media, community and guests for their 2nd
anniversary celebrations in the cafe’s Sky Bar, located on top of the main
cafe.
In true rock and roll style the party kicked off with
plenty of liquid refreshments and a mountain of fabulous food for the
guests. Gregarious Andrew Khoo, Hard Rock Hotel’s GM, mingled around,
entertaining guests and VIPs and ensuring that evening ran smoothly.
The serious business of partying began when in-house band
‘Elizabeth’ kicked off the evening with some good old-fashioned rock and
roll. They were closely followed by the ever-popular Pattaya All-stars Band
that got everyone shaking and jiving to the beat.
Then Andrew invited a number of VIPs to join him on stage
to cut the huge birthday cake. No ordinary knife was suitable for this
auspicious occasion! A magnificent 2-foot saber was brought out to slice the
cake, and pieces of the cake were distributed to guests. Shortly afterward,
everyone in Pattaya who happened to be outside at the time was treated to a
grand display of fireworks set off at the beach.
After happy winners collected their goodies from the
lucky prize draw, everyone moved downstairs to party the night away until
the wee hours of the morning. Happy Birthday Hard Rock Cafe!

Lions Club of Jomtien-Pattaya treats elderly citizens to tour of Horseshoe Point Resort & Country Club
Ariyawat Nuamsawat
Thirty senior citizens from the Banglamung for the
Elderly were recently treated to a tour at Horse Shoe Point Resort &
Country Club. Paul Davies, past president of the Lions Club of
Jomtien-Pattaya, and club members took this opportunity to show the group
around the resort.
Some
of Pattaya’s senior citizens were treated to a memorable day out at the
Horseshoe Point Resort & Country Club.
The activities for the guests included a spectacular
horse show, a Three Kings garden tour, and a Chinese and Buddhist shrines
tour.
The outing created great fun for the senior citizens and
put smiles on their faces. They are not able to take tours like this on
their own and for them it was a great treat.
After the tour, lunch was provided for the elderly before
they returned to the home.
One of the home members said, “I am so happy to visit
places outside the home. Some of us here are left alone in the home and our
relatives rarely come to visit us.”
The old lady added that sometimes they are very lonely
and miss their children. She said it was so wonderful that kind-hearted
people regularly visit them and take them out for some fun because it makes
their loneliness easier to bear.
