This week is Jesters ‘Care For Kids’ Week
Lewis ‘Woody’ Underwood
The Jesters Children’s Fair is this Sunday, September
12 and Jesters Pub Night is six
days later on Saturday, September 18.
All our focus is on the Children’s Fair right now, but
we are still keeping an eye on the following weekend, when we stage our 7 th
annual Jesters Pub Night. This night, besides celebrating a job well done,
will be special as it is a night with a theme. Spearheaded by the great
emcee team of Nigel Saunders and Neil Smith, Saturday September 18 at
Shenanigan’s will be ‘70’s Theme Night’ with the appropriate music,
dress and ambience from this inimitable era.
The
Blind School Children made magnificent music for all fairgoers during the
morning at last year’s fair.
For starters, all the members of staff at Shenanigans
will be dressed up for the occasion, with a prize for the person best
dressed in 70’s attire. Anyone coming to the Jesters Pub Night in 70’s
costume will have their first drink free. Nigel Saunders has been
busy compiling discs of 70’s music for the occasion to play from early on
in the evening, while he will appear at intervals as a variety of famous
personas from that period.
(L-R)
Mike ‘Dabber’ Dabanovich, Pascal and Anne from Bangkok, Pistol Pete and
Scar were seen enjoying last year’s pub night.
Between the nostalgia, we will have our auction slots and
continue to sell Grand Raffle tickets. There are many fabulous prizes to be
won in our final effort to raise as much money as we can, to ‘Care for the
Kids’, while the 70s revelry ensues.
The
students from the Redemptorist School for the Blind received their first
chance to ride a horse at last year’s fair.
Headlining the auction are two valuable sports items. A
New Zealand All-Blacks jersey signed by the whole team and a David Beckham
signed shirt from Euro 2004. We also have a 90-year old wooden cart wheel
and a Burmese antique wood set of Buddha carvings, plus many more art
objects and sports memorabilia.
For our Grand Raffle drawing, we have 4 airline prizes,
including our top trip, Sydney Bangkok return, from BA/Qantas. We also have
a 2-day trip to River Kwai, a 3-month family membership to the Dusit Fitness
Center, a Royal Cliff Beach Hotel 2-night stay in an ocean-view suite, and
an electric bicycle made famous by Dr. Iain. There are many more prizes of
meal vouchers and gift certificates graciously donated by various local and
Bangkok businesses.
Diane
Connelly presented the first of a long list of auction items at last
year’s pub night.
After the Grand Raffle drawing, the live music will start
with Elvis and Frank Sinatra impersonators, followed by bands, such as Wild
Night and Pop’s Pattaya All Stars. It’s all happening at Shenanigan’s
on Saturday, September 18! Come by for a blast in the past and, at the same
time; help to give the Children a better future.
However, the immediate priority is the Children’s Fair
at the Diana Garden Resort & Driving Range, North Pattaya, from 10 a.m.
to 6 p.m. on Sunday the 12 th:
eight hours of non-stop family fun at the fair. Performances from local
schools, Burapha Best, the Dancing Wheelchairs, Fountain of Life Center, and
the Redemptorist School for the Blind band & choir. Eckie the Clown will
be there and the Hula Hoop Sisters from Bangkok will entertain as well.
Horseshoe Point is coming with the ponies for children’s rides and there
is the ever popular Bouncy Castle. On the mat you can watch exciting
demonstrations of c & Kung Fu. The Thai House dancers will perform, many
musicians and impersonators will be on stage, and live bands will see the
day out. The very popular children’s tug-of war will take place again,
immediately after the Children’s Raffle draw at 3.30 p.m.
Prizes this year include: Color TVs, VCD/MP3 player, DVD
players, remote control vehicles, child’s bicycle, vacuum cleaner, digital
camera, Sony CD Walkman, cordless remote phone, Lord of the Rings set, Canon
printer/scanner/copier, microwave oven, home theatre sound system,
educational computer and an acoustic guitar.
Organized children’s games will take place throughout
the day with lots of prizes and there is a Play Center for the little ones.
Overall, there will be 80 stalls to visit, with interesting things to buy,
food from all over the world and the ‘Cool Mist’ Green Garden, next to
the Jesters beer stall, for a relaxing drink.
So, that’s it. Jesters ‘Care For Kids’ Week is this
week and is our final effort in the 2004 Jesters Charity Drive. The Fair
Program Guide is 50 baht for adult entry, and children (as many as you like)
are FREE.
We hope to see you on Sunday Sept 12 at the Diana Garden Resort &
Driving Range at the Jesters Children’s Fair, and the following Saturday
the 18 th at Shenanigans for the
Jesters ‘70s’ Pub Night.
Smoke and Fire at HJB’s Amari Watergate
Henry J Bean’s at the Amari Watergate celebrated its 10th anniversary
with a fiery display of red-hot dancing, complete with smoke generators,
all the beautiful people, lots of wine and strong music. Just the regular
“wine, women and song” according to the Henry J Bean’s faithful who
congregate there several nights a week!
One
of the dancers who rang everyone’s bell!
However, the 10th anniversary was truly something
special with the buffet items presented to feed even the hungriest of
revelers, and the non-stop action to keep everyone breathless. Even the
brief cake cutting ceremony just gave the dancers a little time to relax
before the next medley of music.
Everyone who is anyone was there, including Miss Terry Diner. She was
welcomed by the hotelier with the biggest beaming smile, Pierre-Andre
Pelletier, the GM of the Amari Watergate, who was still there at the end,
and yet still managed to appear immaculately groomed and dressed for
breakfast the next morning.
Pierre
Andre Pelletier is joined by many honorary guests in cutting the 10th
Anniversary birthday cake.
