Making merit with traditional food marks end of Buddhist Lent

Devotees bring “Kaotom Harng” food offerings to monks

Devote Buddhists throughout Thailand marked the end of Buddhist Lent on October 29. The holiday, called “Auk Pansa” or “Tak Bart Tay-Wo”, has long been a Thai tradition.

Thai Buddhists have two special days to mark the end of Buddhist Lent. On both days they go to the temple to make merit; food is given to the monks in the morning, offerings are made to the monks in general, making merit is done at the temple, and people listen to the “Tay-Wo” sermon (an event where food is given to the monks).

The Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya played host at a dinner for members of the Royal Thai College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RTOCG) and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College Obstetricians and Gynecologists (RANZCOG) following the 19th Scientific Meeting of the RTOCG and the first collaboration with RANZCOG held at the hotel. H.E. Peter Rider, New Zealand ambassador to Thailand was the guest of honor during the evening’s proceedings preceded by a traditional Maori welcome.

Queen Victoria Inn repels Philippines Invasion

The Queen Victoria Inn on Soi Yodsak held the first tournament from their venue on Monday the October 25. A tournament between themselves and the visiting Golf Asia group from Angeles City was held at the Bangpra Golf Course. The Golf Asia group last year found the Queen Vic in their travels and used the pub as their home base while in Pattaya. They enjoyed their time so much a tournament was organized for their return visit this year.
