Photographers taking part in a competition to find the best tourism
photographs of Pattaya have the opportunity to win cash prizes, the top
prize being 100,000 baht.
Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh, Chaiwat Charoensuk, director of the Tourism
Authority of Thailand Central Region 3 Office and Sawat Patiyanprasert,
chairman of the Photographic Federation Society of Thailand, announced the
opening of the competition on May 11 at Pattaya City Hall.
Although it had initially been proposed to have two categories of
photographs, the single theme of “Visit Pattaya - Impressive and
Unforgettable” was eventually decided upon. This, it was felt would be
easier for judging, and also to allow the prize money to be increased.
The outright winner will receive 100,000 baht, second prize 70,000 baht and
third prize is 50,000 baht. There are in addition 15 consolation prizes
valued at 5,000 baht each.
All the winning pictures will be displayed at Pattaya Central Festival
Center from August 10 to 15.
Chaiwat said the pictures that win prizes would also be used in promoting
Pattaya as a tourism destination. Those currently being used for this
purpose are mainly old pictures, he said, and the fresh approach to
depicting the city’s attractions would create new images for Pattaya. It is
anticipated that professional photographers will also be taking part in this
competition.
Entry requirements are, that all photographs must be taken between December
31, 2006 and July this year. Any one person may submit a maximum of five
pictures. Photographs must be printed on photographic paper and measure 12 x
18 inches, and then mounted on a board. The original photo file in either
RAW or TIFF format is also required, recorded on a CD and with a resolution
of not less than 300 dpi. Participants may personally deliver their entries
or mail them before the end of July to the Tourism Development and Promotion

Show and tell at PCEC
Allan Sherratt
At the meeting of the Pattaya City Expats Club on May 13, Chairman Andre
Machielsen held a “show and tell” session but unlike the children’s sessions
this had a very serious aim.
Andre
Machielsen and Christian show the various types of hard wired and wireless
options for home security.
Andre has for many years lived here in Thailand and runs a very successful home
and business safety company. Rather than stand and talk about safety measures,
as he has done before, this time he chose to demonstrate with the aid of his
partner Christian, some of the latest equipment in home safety and spy ware.
Andre chose to introduce himself and Christian as the analogue and digital
partners in the business.
The demonstration went through all the possible types of hard wired and wireless
options for home security and also warned that maybe being penny wise and pound
foolish the cheapest options are not always the best to go for. The wireless can
move with you easily when you move – not always easy for the hard-wired.
Alongside the monitoring of the home alarms Andre also stressed that Medical
alarms are also available to be monitored for those with medical problems that
need immediate treatment at a hospital. It is possible to have details on file
with an emergency number and a car be dispatched from BPH within 5 minutes with
a medical team on board.
Andre’s firm has 24-hour monitoring of all alarms, 3 people available on the
monitoring and therefore possible to give unrivalled service.
All types of security, screening, alarms and CCTV options are available to be
put into houses or condos to provide whatever is necessary for the individual
home owner. And the Spy stuff – well things are not always what they appear and
who knows who is watching you - a simple camera can be inserted anyware –
almost! You can observe your children or your office workspace to see what your
staff is doing when they think you are gone for a suitable time, in fact you
name it you can do it almost undetected.
Questions were asked and the latest requirement from the governor about cameras
at places of entertainment and bars was also raised. Andre acknowledged that the
requirement could be filled properly or by a cheap system, but the requirement
needed a week’s tapes to be kept so it was going to prove costly for the owners
as their licence renewals were dependant on it.
The motto of the PCEC is “Expats helping expats” and after the latest
competition to produce a new slogan – despite the 79 contenders the vote went to
“Expats helping expats”. Meetings every Sunday 10.30 with breakfast buffet
available from 9.30 at Henry J. Bean’s, North Pattaya Beach Road.
