Thai minister pushes Royal Coast plan

Pattaya to benefit from PEACH’s completion

Thai minister pushes Royal Coast plan

Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports is pushing the Royal Coast tourism development plan as a national agenda.
Tourism and sports minister, Weerasak Kowsurat, said making the plan a national agenda and part of the greater national tourism development policy would help avoid inevitable glitches, particularly when there were changes in the government.
The ministry is pushing the plan with relevant government agencies, including several departments under the Ministry of Transport such as the Marine Department and Civil Aviation Department, and local administration bodies.
The Royal Coast project was initiated in 2005. It aims to turn four provinces in southern Thailand - Petchburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Ranong - into greater tourism destinations.
However, due to political uncertainties and changes in the government, the plan has yet to materialise.
The ministry and relevant government agencies are now preparing a proposal asking the Cabinet for a 10 billion baht (US$313.75 million) development budget for tourism infrastructure.
The project is expected to entice 2.1 billion baht of private investment in tourism and related projects.
Mr. Weerasak is also floating the idea of linking the four Southern Thai provinces with the eastern coastal provinces of Chonburi, Rayong, Trat and Chanthaburi to facilitate tourism and logistics. (TTG)

Pattaya to benefit from PEACH’s completion

The one-billion-baht (US$31.16 million) expansion of PEACH (Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall) at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort, which increases the venue’s handling capacity from 5,800 to 8,000 people, has been completed.
A second main entrance has been added, allowing the venue to host two separate events simultaneously. The main hall can be divided into several subsections, with interlocking and soundproof walls and partitions.
The number of breakout meeting rooms has been doubled to 18. This, when combined with breakout rooms available in the four hotels on the grounds of Royal Cliff Beach Resort, raises the total number to 40.
Royal Cliff Beach Resort and PEACH managing director, Panga Vathanakul, said the expansion of PEACH would allow the venue to accommodate demands from larger events and further strengthen the positioning of Pattaya as a convention city. (TTG)
