AustCham enjoys the Amari

Dr Iain Corness
The November networking evening for the Australian Chamber of Commerce (AustCham) for its members and their many friends was held in the Amari last Friday. Unfortunately, the inclement weather (read downpours) meant a hurried relocation to the bar in the base of the new Amari Tower, but it was something that the elegant Amari ‘ladies in red’ completed with style and panache.

AustCham president, Shane Torr starts the event with a welcoming speech.
The sponsors of the evening were AA Insurance Brokers and PVC Windows (Thailand), and it certainly was a ‘classy’ evening, with more than adequate wines and beers and some delightful snacks from the location sponsor, the Amari.
Shane Torr, the president of AustCham welcomed all the participants and thanked all the sponsors, and assured everyone that the Chamber was there for its members, it understood the difficulties everyone was facing, and would help in any way that it could.
Peter Smith, on behalf of AA Insurance Brokers, was keen to point out that as brokers, it was their responsibility to find secure investments in insurance for their clients, and was really upbeat in his attitude. He also mentioned that AA Insurance Brokers had been represented at the Six Hour motor race in Bang Saen, sponsoring Dr. Iain at the wheel of one of the Pizza Company cars. At that exact moment, a rather exhausted Dr. Iain crawled into the event and was able to tell everyone that a) the car had finished, b) it was the most difficult and dangerous circuit he had ever driven on and c) he was knackered! Peter Smith then proffered Dr. Iain a nice Australian white wine, which perked him up no end.

The usual mixed bags of industries were represented at the networking night, including Bob Coombes, the director of Choice Foods Thailand, which has just opened another Pattaya branch as the demand for his Aussie meats has escalated; Pravee Chanatchavarin from Tyco Fire and Security made sure no-one burst into spontaneous combustion; and James Beeson, the operations manager from KMP was his usual charming self. The charming young ladies Ann and Pik from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya did their mingling and munching, while stalwarts like Kevin the crane man Fisher was seen nursing a beer. Several beers.
Mention must be made of the illuminated badges being worn by the AA Insurance Brokers staff. Brilliant way to get people to see your message.
Forward notice of the next Seaboard Sundowners will be mentioned in the Pattaya Mail Community Happenings column.

YWCA donates 221 pairs of eyeglasses to Sattahip area students

Sawittree Namwiwatsuk
YWCA has donated 221 pairs of eyeglasses to students in the Sattahip area to honor the memory of the late HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana.

Nittaya Patimasongkroh, chairwoman of YWCA addresses the gathering.

Nittaya Patimasongkroh, chairwoman of YWCA, said the association’s Eye Protection Project will give students and teachers with vision problems the opportunity to correct them and to take care of the health of their eyes.
This project received support from the Pattaya Sports Club who donated 50,000 baht via their charity chairman Bernard Tuppin and Dave Anderson, an American pilot, who provided 500 spectacle frames.
Students from three schools who received the glasses had their eyesight measured by the Beautiful Eyeglasses Shop on July 16. There were 103 students from Sattahip Wittayakom School, 58 students from Ban Sattahip School and 60 students from Bamrungsitsuksa School.
Just to make the eyes become a little bigger and focus better, a big vat of ice cream was also brought out as an extra reward.
The YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center held a ceremony to hand over the eyeglasses to students on November 7 at Sattahip Wittayakom School attended by chairwoman Nittaya Patimasongkroh, Witsanu Pasomsap, principal of Sattahip Wittayakom School, Apirom Pensuk, principal of Ban Sattahip School, Dujduan Ruangwettiwong, Bernie Tuppin from the PSC, and members of the YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya committee.

Henry J. Bean’s, a world famous American restaurant chain with a popular branch located at the Amari Orchid Resort & Tower in Pattaya, is 11 years old so there was plenty of reason to celebrate.
The night of November 1 saw a mini concert performed by popular singer Da-EndorPhine, who sang songs from her latest album “Sound about”, much to the delight of her fans.
Then other well-known performers Font Montgomery, Nuk-Suthhida, Verso, Ko-Theerasak Phanjariya, and Jack & Jill followed, to the clinking of champagne glasses as the golden bubbly flowed freely.
Host Dominik Stamm, general manager of the resort, personally welcomed the performers and signed posters together with Da-EndorPhine.
Henry J. Bean’s is popular for its Americana ambience, by using colorful road signs, Tiffany style lamps, checkered table cloths, juke-boxes and classic American food to create a down-home American atmosphere.
Very appropriate just now with the American election very much in the news.

Crown Worldwide sponsors Lighthouse Club October function

Lighthouse Club members with Tracy & Melissa Cosgrove of Sanuk SR.

Special Correspondent
On Friday October 24 over 35 brave souls overcame a wet and miserable Pattaya evening to enjoy yet another successful Lighthouse Club function at Shenanigans on Second Road.
The proud sponsor this month was the Crown Worldwide group which has recently expanded their operations in to the Eastern Seaboard region under the management of Mary Walsh. Crown are also offering new services in addition to their core relocation business, including full logistics, customs clearance, records management and the movement and storage of fine arts and wine. More information is available at their website - www.crownrelo.com

Town & Country Property contingent.
Two new members were signed up on the evening and we welcome Andy Friel of Thailand Property and Robbie Loane of Canadoil to the Lighthouse Club - the construction industry charity.
For the first time the regional magazine - “The Lighthouse” was made available to all members and guests. The magazine provides excellent information about the many projects various chapters in the Asian regions are successfully launching and managing.
Our chapter has only been going for about 6 months but we are very happy to have just started funding some resources for the construction camp pre-schools in Pattaya run by Tracy Cosgrove. We were lucky that she and her daughter, Melissa were able to spare some of their time and join us this evening.

Some of the more notable attendees and all in fine fettle were a big contingent from Town & Country Property, Paul Wilkinson from AGS Four Winds, John Hamilton from Waste Management, Jack Levy from MLG Insurance, John Ashton from Ocean 1 Property, Peter Mewes of the London Consultancy, Dave from Real Estate Thailand magazine and Roger Yee from Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick.
Our first raffle went off extremely well with a great major prize valued at Bt 5000 donated by the ever smiling John Seymour of Northern Thai – however, there were some grumblings directed at the winner - Gavin Perfect of Paradise City Property. The wine bottles donated by Crown Worldwide were gratefully accepted by more prize winners.
If anyone is interested in joining the Lighthouse Club and getting registered on our emailing list please contact mark@ northstarthai.com. The concept is to have fun with a feel-good factor as all our income is disbursed to suitable construction charities.
