A lost Russian tourist was robbed and seriously
injured after he was attacked by a group of Thai men.
Andrey Grishin, 38, suffered a deep knife wound to
the shoulder around 4 a.m. Jan. 3 on a small side street opposite the
Pattaya Palladium on Second Road. He was taken to Pattaya Memorial
Hospital for treatment.
Grishin told police he’d been walking back to his
hotel when he made a wrong turn onto the dimly lit soi. There he
encountered four Thais sitting and drinking. He joined them after being
offered a drink.
Suddenly, he said, one of the men tried to slash him
in the face with a knife. The Russian moved, but the knife still hit his
shoulder and he collapsed. The men fled, but not before stealing all his
belongings, except his passport.
Police believe the attackers are construction workers
in the area and are pursuing an investigation.
