Pattaya Sports Club Bowling League
The Trophy winners: Somrit, Tue, Lek, Pao, Aht,
Ralph & La
(not shown Wade and Mai).
Snow Bowler wins first place, Canada captures second and
Brother D gets the third place trophy.
Canada took three points from Snow Bowler who were
bowling with a blind but Snow Bowler had a big lead going into the last week
and they walk away with the first place trophy. Bowling was not too good on
lanes five and six but Tue Pettae, Canada, figured it out after the first
game. She started with a 135 game and then had games of 227 and 284 for a
546 series.
Brother D beat Bavaria winning three points to take third
place. Somrit led Brother D with a 503 series and Antero Ronkainen bowled a
515 for Bavaria.
Ooy Pluemkamon led VFW Post 9876 with games of 194, 209
and 177 for a 580 series to give them a two-two tie with U.S. Marine Corps.
Jan Johansson had a 215 game and 518 series for the Marine Corps team and
Tui Amphanon had a 211 game for VFW.
Green Tree and Caf้ Kronborg both struggled on lanes
eleven and twelve, which is not unusual on those lanes and they split their
match with each team getting two points.

Trevor Schirmer is best of the week
IPGC golf from The Haven
Trevor Schirmer.
Monday, August 29,
Pleasant Valley - Stablefor
CSS 71
1st Trevor Schirmer (15) 38pts
2nd Warren Gallop (12) 37pts
3rd Alan Hanlon (12) 35pts
4th Rodney Hayes (11) 34pts
5th Shuichi Kodaka (18) 34pts
After a fairly long hiatus the group from Soi 13 returned
to Pleasant Valley where they found a warm welcome and a new pricing
structure that was more in line with the reality during this particularly
slow low season. Even though the course is perhaps almost the furthest away
from base, with the new road system out of central Pattaya and all roadworks
on the Bangkok motorway finished, the journey time is only just over 30
minutes in good driving conditions. All the foregoing factors now bring the
course into the “regularly played” category for the future.
Allan Hanlon.
Even though the recent experience levels were low, the
scoring was of a high order with Trevor Schirmer especially taking advantage
of the relative shortness of the course to return his best result for some
considerable time, enabling him to take the win by a single shot ahead of
Warren Gallop. Warren had obviously taken note of some of the lessons that
he has handed out as a teacher of golf at a Chinese University, to get back
in under handicap for the first time in over a month, although to be fair he
has been suffering from an illness that has badly affected his abilities
recently.
Alan Hanlon took third spot continuing with the good form
that he brought with him from England earlier in the month.
Shuichi Kodaka.
Rodney Hayes seemed determined to get a final mention as
he won a count back over Shuichi Kodaka for fourth by a margin of 19 to 17
to underline his undoubted tenacity.
There were no 2’s in either division.
Before presenting the prizes The Doc welcomed back Alan
Pilkington and gave a final farewell to Rodney Hayes who was returning to Oz
to sort out his handicap among other things.
Wednesday, August 31,
Bangpra - Monthly Medals
CSS 75 NC
Division 1
1st Alan Hanlon (12) net76
2nd Warren Gallop (12) net 78
3rd Rick Allison (3) net 82
Division 2
1st Shuichi Kodaka (18) net 76
2nd Rod Howett (22) net 81
3rd Mark Armstrong (22) net 86
Having had the monthly medals at Phoenix cancelled due to
extremely heavy rain and an early waterlogged Phoenix on the previous
Friday, the medals had been re-scheduled to Bangpra as it was determined
that this would be a stern test of golf under stroke play conditions.
So it certainly turned out to be, as the scoring started
high and went even higher, as the players found the combination of heavy
going through the green and the usual very tricky greens almost too
difficult to handle on the day. With the best net score of the day four over
handicap in both divisions it was to be a day of attrition for even the
hardiest.
Alan Hanlon’s gross 88, although not the lowest gross of
the day, produced the winning score for the first division by two clear
from, the now super competitive, Warren Gallop just behind in second place.
Rick Allison, having struck the ball well all day, had
the best gross of the day but found the conditions a little more than he
could handle on his first visit to Pattaya and had to settle for third.
Shuichi Kodaka came good again to claim his second medal
of the year with a four over handicap score that easily took the second
division medal by five clear ahead of Rod Howett, with Mark Armstrong
lagging another five behind in third.
Alan’s win ensured that he will be able to compete in the
year end Gold and Silver Medal rounds to be held in December, which are open
for all the year’s medal winners. Shuichi, having already booked his spot
earlier in the February Medal, ensured that there will be one less
competitor in his division.
There were no 2’s once again in the first division but
Mark Armstrong saved his best tee shot of the day for the 180 yard 17th
to land the ball near enough to be able to slip in the only 2 of the second
division.
Before the presentations there was a farewell for Rick
Allison after a trip from Oz that had been badly curtailed by the weather.
Friday, Sept, 2, Pattaya
C.C. - Stableford
CSS 71
1st Wayne Marrell (15) 36pts
2nd Trevor Schirmer (15) 36pts
3rd Yoshitaka Iketani (19) 34pts
4th Shane Heavey (17) 32pts
5th Brian Kelly (20) 32pts
The monthly visit to Pattaya Country Club is always
eagerly anticipated as it is the nearest course to home and therefore
maximizes the time available, post golf, to enjoy some of the pleasures of
the city. It is also a very friendly course to play, from the time the
player checks in until the staff wave goodbye following a very pleasant
day’s golf. Although not designed by one of the top names in golf it still
poses a reasonable test of without unduly trying the full range of the
golfer’s ability, it is always a pleasant day on the course.
Wayne Marrell turned in the sort of round that he was
expecting, having arrived from Oz with, and complaining about, one of those
new handicaps which he was sure was a least three shots too high following
the recent change in the handicapping system in Australia, which even with
the latest tweaking, is still seen to be out of step with the old system by
between three and five shots.
But even though his level handicap round was good enough
for the day’s top honours, he had to win out in a grueling count back with
Trevor Schirmer, after they had both ended the day on 36 points. He did just
that with a final 3 points on the last two holes as they had previously tied
the nine at 16, the six at 10 and the last three at 5 points each.
Yoshitaka Iketani slipped into a clear third place with a
two over handicap return, two behind the leading pair and two ahead of the
fourth placed Shane Heavey, with Brian Kelly finishing in fifth after losing
the count back with Shane by a margin of 18 to 14.
Once again there were no 2’s in the first division and
also none in the second division.
Before making the presentations The Doc welcomed new
members Wayne Marrell, Jennifer and John Fisher, Thomas and Raymond Crosby,
David Simpson, Alan Mawer, Grant Ashcroft and Paul Ruhl.
There were also welcome backs for Shane Heavey, Mick
Lowe, Ron Kerslake and Yoshitaka Iketani.
Note: The Haven group now departs Soi 13 at the
earlier time of 9 am until further notice. If you would like to play with
the group you can contact mobile 082 219 0965 or call in to the hotel at 185
Soi 13 between Beach Road and 2nd Road. All
transportation to the course is arranged and you do not need to sign up
prior to the day, but you should be there by 8.30 on Mondays, Wednesday,
Fridays and 9.00am on Sundays on the days you wish to play. A schedule of
courses to be played can be found on our web site at www.thehaven-hotel.com.

Ray fires shot of the day
at Crystal Bay
PSC Golf from Mulligans Lakeside
Martin, Clive & Jeff at
Mulligans Lakeside after Thursday’s round at Khao Kheow.
Tuesday, August 30,
Crystal Bay - Skins
Tuesday was a long awaited return for some to Crystal
Bay, where the course was a little damp but overall in good order. The
greens are not quite as good as they were several years ago but are running
true with medium pace.
As the headline suggests, it was Ray Spence (H/cap 17)
returning to a bit of form who laid claim to shot of the day on the par 5,
A9, where he holed from 150 yards for a nice birdie; this after having a
chop on his 2nd & 3rd shots. That was enough to clinch Ray another skin, as
Jeff & Martin wrestled to claim leftovers. Martin actually played the best
golf on the day quite easily, but skins can be fickle.
Thursday, Sept. 1, Khao Kheow - Skins
Thursday was a visit to Khao Kheow with A & B our
allotted test, the best combination (in my opinion) as it offers a full
variety of Pete Dye design holes.
Martin was able to continue some of his form from
Tuesday, while it was Jeff whose star shone the brightest with a couple of
nice birdies sprinkled amongst a few not so good ones. Clive continues to
hit good shots, well above his handicap level and it is only a matter of
time before it all comes together for him.
Note: Mulligans LAKESIDE plays golf on Tuesday &
Thursday, with presentation at the course Tuesday & ML hosting on Thursdays.
Call 0890941841 for scheduling or enquiries. Hope to see you there, cheers &
good golfing!

Pilkington plunders top prize
PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s
Dick Warberg (right) presents
the MBMG ‘golfer of the month’ award to Frank Pilkington.
Derek Brook
Tuesday, August 30,
Crystal Bay – Stableford
The day looked a bit overcast, but the heavy rain of
previous days seemed to have stopped, even if it was a bit cloudy. This
being the last Tuesday of the month we also had the added interest of our
new sponsor, The MBMG Group, having their first ‘Golfer of The Month’ result
and this month it looked very close with just about all the golfers in with
a chance of winning.
Tuesday’s winners from Crystal
Bay.
So it was into the cars and up Sukhumwit, turn left, and
straight down to Crystal Bay. The road these days is much better but there
is still a road work or two before we got there. On the way it started to
rain, but only a few scattered showers which seemed to clear up before we
got to the course.
Crystal Bay is a pale shadow of what it once was, faded
glory one might say, however we were pleasantly surprised to see that some
renovation work has started, we live in hope. This was once my favourite
course on the Eastern Seaboard and the course itself still maintains a
promise of reverting to its former glory. One day with a little effort it
could. In the meantime it still remains a fine place for a day’s golf and
provides a good test.
Due to all the previous days of rain buggies were not
allowed on the fairways when we arrived there but no problems as I thought
the rough would be O.K. Well the course was saturated, all the rough was
soaking wet and water was a major problem all the way around. Indeed the
management were very good to let play go on. Large muddy patches were still
seen on the approach to the greens and all in all it was a difficult course
to play on.
So was it too bad? Well we had a great day wading through
the course and most agreed it was a good day out. Mind, we did not expect
the scores to be outstanding.
Back in the changing room it was just a little dingy and
one of the players made a comment that when he first came here it was
pristine, but they are still using the same towels. However the water was
hot and after a wet day very welcoming.
Back at Bert’s it was time for the presentation and the
count back went on for the MBMG Group ‘golfer of the month’.
The winner on the day was Frank Pilkington with 36 points
ahead of Paul Sharples with 35 points in second. We then had a count back on
34 points that saw Mashi Kaneta in third and Doug Maiko in fourth.
So to the MBMG Group ‘golfer of the month’ and the
winner, confirmed with his win on the day, was Frank Pilkington. Well done
Frank. T.T.F.N.
Near Pins: Mashi Kaneta (2), Takeshi Hakozaki,

Drader tops the podium
to win monthly award
PSC golf from the Three Sisters Bar
Winner Dale Drader (left) with the monthly trophy
and runner-up
Paul Kinmond (right).
There were some bad looking clouds (as versus good
looking clouds) but no rain fell on the Pattaya Country Club this past 31st
of August. We had a good turn out and the competition was fierce, this being
the end of the month and it meant the winner got his name on the trophy (as
seen in the photo).
Coming in with a “roaring” 34 points was Dale Drader to
head the field while there were three folks coming in with 33 points but
Paul Kinmond got the honors for second. Dale Murphy and his wife Pottida
both had 33s also.
Sus Ige, who has been providing snacks and dogs, has
officially turned the responsibility back to Herbie Ishinage who is getting
around just fine with a cane. The snacks and dogs were good, as usual.
Andy M. wins big at Emerald
The Backyard Golf Society
On arrival at Emerald golf course for our weekly game we
were yet again greeted by rain, which seems to be happening every Friday at
the moment. But never mind, everyone seemed up for it and with 8 players
this week we set off just after 9 a.m. and after a wet front 9 holes the
rest of the round was fairly dry.
Mike C. did his level best to have the lowest points
total but after racking up a miserable 4 points on the front he recovered
for a total of 15 which puts him tied for second within the society for the
lowest score ever.
Andy M. gave up his fatherly duties for the day and
proceeded to clean up by taking the game, nearest the pin and 12 skin
prizes. The remaining skins went to Martyn (3), JJ (1), and Bob G. (1) with
one rolled over to next week.
To finish the day a few drinks were consumed to
commiserate with Bob G. on his impending trip back to the UK next week!
Victory for Mark Reid in Syd LeBron Memorial
PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Mark Reid (centre) was the
winner of the Syd LeBron Memorial Putter with 108 points from Phil Waite
(right) with 104 points and Steve Mann (left) with 103.
Day 1 – Monday, August 29,
Black Mountain Golf Club - Hua Hin
Last year’s success of the first Outback tour to Hua Hin
led to a bigger event this time round with 44 players vying to capture the
first prize in the renamed tournament, “The Syd LeBron Memorial Putter”. Syd
used to play golf with the Outback on his trips up from Aus and also made
custom made putters, one of which he made for the Outback. Sadly, Syd passed
away a few months ago after a short illness, may he rest in peace.
The journey from Pattaya was straightforward, taking the
Skyroad until the Rama II turnoff, then over the new bridge made it very
easy and there was no traffic or police! The Thipurai City Hotel is in the
heart of town in a very small soi but after getting a few cars parked and
then squeezing the Outback bus in, even Jack Spencer found room to park his
little Jazz at the back. The hotel is small and the rooms very varied but in
all in very friendly and at the centre of all the action and just across the
way from the Hilton.
After stories of heavy rain and golf carts not being
allowed at Black Mountain at all, there was some concern whether we would
get to play there of not; but the management had promised to advise the
General if that was likely to be the case. Well it wasn’t and after a light
drizzle for an hour or so all the groups got away, just ahead of time, with
this spectacular course ahead of them.
We played the white tees, which some felt was little
short at 6,100yds, but rated at 70.4 with a slope of 131, but the general
consensus was, this was the right tee to play and we always had the option
of the longer blue tee when we returned here for the final round on
Wednesday.
Certainly, the Div A players fared better than those in
Div C, with the surprise leader Neil Lavery (12), racking up the best score
of the day (41pts), closely followed by Pat Regan (11) on 40 and Mark Reid
(10) with 39.
In contrast nobody in Div C played to handicap, as it was
won by Bruce McAdam (24) with just 35 points, heading off John Cogan (17) on
the same score.
Another surprise winner was in Div B with Micky Leighton
scoring 39 points off 14, with Sel Wegner (15) two back on 37 from Phil
Waite (15) in third on 36.
There were a total of ten ‘2’s on the first day; four on
hole 3 from Nigel Flanagan, Bruce McAdam, Scotty Qua & Jack Spencer; three
on hole 11 from Tony McDonough, Steve Milne & Phil Waite and three on hole
14 from Chris Davisson, John Fitzgerald & Jack Moseley.
Div A (0-12)
1st Neil Lavery (12/Hi11.4) 41pts
2nd Pat Regan (11) 40pts
3rd Mark Reid (10/Hi9.8) 39pts
4th Paul Bourke (10/Hi10.2) 38pts
Div B (13-16)
1st Mick Leighton (14/Hi13.4) 39pts
2nd Sel Wegner (15/Hi13.9) 37pts
3rd Phil Waite (15/Hi14.1) 36pts
4th Jim Bryan (16/Hi15.4) 35pts
Div C (17+)
1st Bruce McAdam (24/Hi22.5) 35
2nd John Cogan (17/Hi15.9) 35pts
3rd, David Davies (27/Hi24.5) 34pts
4th Campbell Potts (17/Hi16.2)
32pts
Day 2 – Tuesday, August
30, Banyan Golf Club – Hua Hin
There had been much discussion before the tour whether
Black Mountain was a better course than Banyan and many of us knew no better
as we hadn’t played either before. Where Banyan definitely had the edge was
their customer relations and presentation.
A couple of days previously we had been asked for the
name of the tournament, our logo and our start sheet. It was to be another
day of no rain and upon arrival at the course; all the bags were identified
by each player and placed on the individual carts in the correct grouping
order and outside the Pro shop was a welcoming sign with our tournament name
on it! Furthermore each player’s card had been overprinted with our logo,
the name of the tournament and each individual’s name and correct playing
handicap for the day.
Each cart here has GPS with an excellent layout of each
hole and also can accurately tell you the distance to the hole and how far
you’ve hit the ball. Another innovative idea was they had set up a leader
board into the system and each player could find out how everybody else was
going; it would be great to use on the final day of a comp!
As if they hadn’t done enough, the two girls down at the
start photographed every group which had been printed ready for collection
in the locker room when we returned. Thanks Stuart and Joe for setting it
all up so professionally.
So which course was better? Certainly the rating and
slope had indicated that Black Mountain was tougher than Banyan by some two
shots for most players but when the result came in, it concurred what many
had said, Banyan was the harder course, as the scores returned showed the
course played three shots over par and unlike Black Mountain, nobody played
to handicap.
There seemed to be less trouble off the tee but the
greens were quick and the lines were subtle making them difficult to read,
if you couldn’t get the pace right the ball would never find the hole.
The top score of the day came from Steve Mann (11) to be
found unusually in Div B, with his 35 points followed in by yesterday’s
winner of the same division, Mick Leighton (13) on 33. Second best score was
the winner of Div A, Mark Reid (9) with 34 points from Jack Spencer (9) from
three more all on 31.
Once again as at Black Mountain, Div C didn’t fare so
well, with their best score of 32 (5th overall),
coming from Steve Poznanski (16) two ahead of John Stafford, also off 16
with 30.
There were only three ‘2’s from Steve Budrys & John
Stafford on hole 2 and Paul Bourke on hole 15.
Div A (0-10)
1st Mark Reid (9/Hi9.2) 34pts
2nd Jack Spencer (9/Hi9.9) 33pts
3rd Paul Smith (0/Hi1.2) 31pts
4th Steve Budrys (9/Hi10) 31pts
Div B (11-14)
1st Steve Mann (11/Hi11.6) 35pts
2nd Mick Leighton (13/Hi12.5) 33pts
3rd Jum Karagit (14/Hi15.8) 32pts
4th Tony McDonough (14/Hi14.8)
32pts
Div C (15+)
1st Steve Poznanski (16/Hi16.4)
32pts
2nd John Stafford (16/Hi16.5) 30pts
3rd David Davies (24/Hi24.5) 30pts
4th Jim Bryan (15/HI15.4) 29pts
Day 3, Wednesday, August
31, Black Mountain –Hua Hin
So to the final day back at Black Mountain, with the
leaders going out last and the top of the two day leader board looking like
this: Mark Reid (75), Mick Leighton (72), Steve Mann (67), Paul Bouke (67),
Neil Lavery (67), Bob St. Aubin (66), Phil Waite (65), David Davies (64),
Jim Bryan (64), Tony McDonough (63), Paul Smith (63) and Steve Budrys (63).
The weather was kind to us again with the sun showing
though for a while with a little distant thunder but definitely hotter. We
were able to get away about 15 minutes early with General Jack, Scotty, Dave
Earthrowl and Brian Maddox leading the field out, as they all found
themselves at the wrong end of the two day leaderboard.
The players were back on the same playing handicaps as
the first day as they (the handicaps) were not to be adjusted until the
tournament was over. Rosco was the man today with the day’s best, 40 points
to win Div A from two on 39 points, Nigel Flanagan and Chris Davisson.
Div B had a three tied on 39 points only to be separated
on countback in the following order; Bruce Milner (22 back), Phil Waite (21
back) and Bernie Stafford (20 back). Another Stafford, this time John, won
Div C with 36 from big Steve Poznanski on 35 and Jum, the only lady in the
field, on 33 who beat Greg Hill into third place on countback.
At this point it’s just worth another mention of the
merits of the EGA handicap system: - at Black Mountain Jum played off 20, a
course which was 5,657 yards long, rated 73.7 with a slope of 134, at Banyan
she played off 14 on a course which was only 5,087 yards long, rated
69.7/114. Her PSC Index is 16.
There are some who that may argue that the handicaps
indices may work out the same in the back room but a handicap index is not
just about having a handicap, it’s also designed that we all play together
off a level playing field; that means transposing one’s index to a playing
handicap for each tee on each course.
Finally our thanks to the Black Mountain staff,
particularly to the ladies in the restaurant and Pro shop, all of whom
looked very fetching in their black and gold uniforms.
There were eight more ‘2’s today; three on hole 3 from
Nigel Flanagan, Paul Smith & Jack Spencer, two on hole 8 from Chris
Davisson, Jack Moseley & another one from Nigel, one from Steve Poznanski on
hole 14 and one from Paul Bourke on hole 16.
Div A (0-12)
1st Rosco Langoulant (12/Hi11.9)
40pts
2nd Nigel Flanagan (12/Hi11.5)
39pts
3rd Chris Davisson (12/Hi11.7)
39pts
4th Kev Reid (11/Hi11.2) 37pts
Div B (13-16)
1st Phil Waite (15/Hi14.1) 39pts
2nd Bernie Stafford (13/Hi12.4)
39pts
3rd Jeff Calrow (13/Hi12.6) 38pts
4th Sel Wegner (15/Hi13.6) 36pts
Div C (17+)
1st John Stafford (17/Hi16.5) 36pts
2nd Steve Poznanski (17/Hi16.4)
35pts
3rd Jum Karagit (20/Hi15.8) 33pts
4th Greg Hill (21/Hi19.9) 33pts
With the tour closing off at Black Mountain on Wednesday,
before the overall results were announced, a few words were voiced and few
votes taken. There is no doubt that the Outback will return to Hua Hin next
year; when everybody was asked whether two rounds at Banyan and one at Black
Mountain or the other way round as this year, it was a very even vote, so we
shall see. However, when asked to make it a longer trip as Chiang Mai, i.e.
leaving on a Sunday, playing Mon & Tues, day off Weds, with alternative golf
say the Sea Pines for those who want, and the final round on Thurs, it was
over whelmingly supported.
Hua Hin is not the place it used to be a good few years
back; the hotel is right amongst the sois with their many restaurants and
bars with its bustling night life a most enjoyable place albeit a little
more expensive than Chiang Mai.
Well played you guys and once again well done the
weather.
Overall Results
1st Mark Reid 108pts
2nd Phil Waite 104pts
3rd Steve Mann 103pts
T4th Bernie Stafford101pts
T4th Mick Leighton 101

Lay storms home to victory at Laem Chabang
PSC golf from the Fairways Golf Society
Jon Lay (left) was the A
Flight winner at the P.A.G.S. monthly.
Tuesday, August 30,
Laem Chabang - P.A.G.S. Monthly Tournament
Our first P.A.G.S. tournament at this venue and it
turned out to be a great success. Unfortunately the management
restricted us to twenty 4-balls (eighty players), so we would like to
apologies to all the golfers we had to turn away. We strongly advise you
to get your names down early to avoid disappointment next time. We will
definitely include this venue in next year’s tournament and hopefully
they will allow us more tee times as they were very happy with the way
the tournament was run.
Mike Priedaux (left) was
the B Flight winner.
On to the golf and the weather was overcast with a
slight breeze which made it ideal for play. We were expecting some
really high scoring but it turned out that only five players managed to
play to their handicap or better and all of them were in the A Flight.
Jon Lay came in with the highest score of the day, 41
points, to take the honours while Kevin McIntosh took second place on a
four-way count back with 37. All the other divisions were won with
scores over par.
As usual the competition was fierce and it took count
backs in every division to decide the placings.
C Flight winner was Mike
Chat (left).

Thursday, Sept. 1, The
Emerald – Stableford
Not so many golfers today so only one division which
was won with a very mediocre score of 31 points by Ken Meek. Second
place was decided on a 19-18 count back as Don Carmody edged Toby
O’Neill who took his first podium position whilst playing with us.
I think the course had a lot to do with the low
scoring as it was not up to its usual standard. The management
apologised for this and said they were doing their best to get it back
to its normal good condition.
1st Ken Meek (21) 31pts
2nd Don Carmody (23) 30pts
3rd Toby O’Neill (19) 30pts
Note: The Fairways Driving Range and Golf

Vic’s swinging in the rain
PSC golf from Lewinski’s Golf Society
Sunday, August 28, Green
Valley - Stableford
A Flight
1st Vic Hester (14) 42pts
2nd Bob Newell (8) 38pts
B Flight
1st Colin Davis (15) 35pts
2nd Lou Zig-Zag (18) 34pts
Near Pins: No 4 Jonny Lindberg; No 9 Bob Dibben;
No 12 Bob Dibben; No 17 Yui Bietry.
The storm clouds were gathering as the society left
Lewiinski’s for our usual Sunday bash at Green Valley, and they did not
disappoint as about half way through the game the heavens opened up. This
caused a few players to give it up for the day.
After about an hour play resumed but only for twenty
minutes, as the rain returned with a vengeance. This also lasted about an
hour, by this time the field was depleted to half the original contestants
but as they say the show must go on.
It was the senior flight that weathered the storm best as
Victor ‘the inflictor’ lived up to his name as he put together an
unbelievable (considering the conditions and a no score on the 5th hole) 42
points. Vic was three clear of Bob ‘Marley’ Newell who seems to have got his
timing back.
The Donkey took top podium spot in the junior flight as
his 35 points (which included no scores on the 3rd 14th
16th and 17th) was just one
stroke clear (much to the delight of gang) of Aussie Lou Zig-Zag.
Bob Newell and Jonny Lindberg split a healthy 2’s pot.
Tuesday, August 30,
Greenwood C & B - Stableford
1st John Feehan 37pts
2nd Colin Davis (15) 37pts
3rd Bob Dibben (8) 34pts
The young man from Co. Tipperary, Ireland, John Feehan,
could buy his merry band of leprechauns a getaway drink with his 37 points
as he took the man of the match honors on a count back over the Donkey,
whose own pay window exploits have been duly noted of late.
A bunch of three players were tied three strokes back for
the bronze podium spot. That man from Wales, Bob Dibben, came out on top
leaving Peter ‘Don O’Corleone’ Henshaw and Bill ‘the monkey tamer’ Brochart,
at sea level.
Mike the welsh Wizard carded the day’s only ‘2’.
Wednesday,
August 31,
Bangpra - Stableford
A Flight
1st Paul Whitnall (11) 32pts
2nd Michael Mier (7) 31pts
B Flight
1st Jimmy Day (15) 31pts
2nd Don Lehmer (16) 31pts
Bangpra, which many consider to be the toughest test of
par 72 on the Eastern sea board, bared the teeth of its tight fairways and
lightning glass like greens to ensure no one bettered their handicap. Colin
the Donkey, who is kind enough to lend the scribe on-course assistance,
reported that after two holes his group of four well seasoned golfers had
five points between them.
Mastering the premier division was Paul Whitnall who won
with a best of the day 32 points. Paul’s score was one stroke ahead of
Michael Mier.
Jimmy Day and Don Lehmer, often referred to as the ladies
men, and Bill Brochart are not cutting their Tuesday night time activity
short by any stretch of the imagination, though it seems to show in their
performance on the fairways, as all three could only muster 31 points.
Irelands’ Jimmy Day emerged from the heap to take top spot in the junior
division, an out of breath Don faltered on the back side to take the silver.
Bill was left out in the cold and on his own-some.
Brian Holden and Paul Young shared the ‘2’s pot.
Friday, September 2,
Treasure Hills - Stableford
1st Jimmy Day (18) 37pts
2nd Peter Henshaw (14) 35pts
3rd Bob Dibben (8) 34pts
My goodness, he’s done it again! Not happy with
Wednesday’s B Flight victory, Jimmy ‘the ladies man’ won the premier flight
again today. To cap it all Jimmy was the only player to better his handicap
with a solid 37 points - a super score on this course.
Peter ‘Don O’Corleone’ Henshaw, a shot adrift, made it an
Irish double. Welshman Bob Dibben secured the third podium place a further
shot back with the aid of a count back over the unlucky Daniel Oshiro.
The Donkey made good use of his wife’s former employer
and course knowledge whose sister and mother still caddie there, to notch
the only 2 of the day and so make it a happy reunion.

Doug & Nid shine through the clouds
PSC golf from the Café Kronborg
Doug Maiko, Peter Blackburn &
Nid Pengplung.
Peter Blackburn
Monday, August 29,
Treasure Hill – Stableford
The Admiral was a late withdrawal due to a sore wrist
(don’t know how that could happen in Pattaya!) and a couple of other
entrants fell by the wayside, but we were still left with a good field of
seventeen golfers for the day’s competition at Treasure Hill.
We welcomed Nid Pengplung from Thailand and headed off
from the Kronny right on time but in overcast conditions. The rain started
to come down and got heavier during the 47 minute journey and by the time we
arrived at the course things were not looking that flash. We delayed our
“booking in” until we had a good look at the situation and a quick visit to
the eighteenth green made it apparent that we needed the weather to change
very quickly for the better and lo and behold it did. The rain stopped and
the eighteenth green started to drain rapidly and after a 45 minute wait it
was agreed that we would proceed with our competition. The Kronny “Rain God”
had smiled for us once again.
Mike Winfield, The Admiral &
Andre Van Dyk.
We sent a two ball off first at 1005 hrs and although
there was light drizzle this disappeared after a couple of holes. The course
was very wet as expected but the usual reliefs were available and the golf
course was draining very well, particularly considering the amount of rain
that it had received over the last few days. The greens were in excellent
condition and in no way hampered by the weather and no more rain was seen
for the rest of the round.
As expected the golf course was practically deserted so
we completed our first nine in two hours and after a brief drinks stop
before the crocodile hole we were able to complete the round in four hours
and five minutes.
We had two flights with A Flight for handicaps 0 to 16
and B Flight for 17 and over. There were rewards for nearest the pins on the
four par threes.
When doing the scores I was surprised that some of them
were fairly high as this is not an easy course and it was fairly wet but if
you had less than 36 points there was no mention in dispatches.
The A Flight was won by American Doug Maiko with a great
42 points, just 1 point ahead of Aussie Mike Gosden. Yours truly managed to
keep his head down and finished third with 36 points. Newcomer Nid Pengplung
took out the B Flight with a fine 40 points, 2 points clear of 81 year old
Hugh O’Donnell and Daryl Evans finished third with 36 points.
A Flight
1st Doug Maiko (12) 42pts
2nd Mike Gosden (11) 41pts
3rd Peter Blackburn (11) 36pts
B Flight
1st Nid Pengplung (23) 40pts
2nd Hugh O’Donnell (23) 38pts
3rd Daryl Evans (19) 36pts
Near Pins: 2nd Dave Neal; 6th
Marko Beer; 13th Daryl Evans; 17th
Hugh O’Donnell
The Compass Cap was won by Marko Beer and Deefa the Dog
re-appeared with his Master, Hunter and collected many donations from all
present.
Thursday,
September 1,
Pleasant Valley – Stableford
An excellent field of twenty golfers were signed up for
the day’s competition at Pleasant Valley and we welcomed Karl Baeker from
Germany, James Carrick from Las Vegas, Nevada and Kenny Bernek’s wife Wendy
at the start of her two and a half month vacation.
Leaving Café Kronborg in 2 mini vans just before 0815 hrs
with The Admiral recovered from his injured wrist we arrived at a
practically deserted course 42 minutes later. The weather was cloudy but
fine and the golf course looked superb and our first group hit off 45
minutes ahead of schedule at 0915 hrs.
The course was in great shape despite plenty of recent
rain although most found the greens tricky with residual sand on them and
mostly “rock hard”. Flying through the front nine in two hours and 10
minutes we took a long break at the half way mark to refresh in the now very
humid conditions.
Once again 2 of our group, Mike & Dave, were both playing
well and having a “ding dong” battle which was apparent when Dave declined a
request from Mike for a ride in his cart after we had teed off on the 14th.
It was a fine bit of gamesmanship but was to prove ineffective as to the
outcome but of course all in good spirit.
Another drinks break half way through the back nine saw
us complete the round in just over four hours and thirty minutes. We had 2
Flights, A Flight for 0 to 16 and B Flight for handicaps of 17 and over and
with the good field were able to reward nearest the pins on all par threes.
Your writer sponsored rewards for longest first putts on the 9th
and 18th.
With a welcome return to form after a lean spell of late,
Andre Van Dyk took out the A Flight with 37 points, 2 points ahead of Mike
“Hunter” Gosden in second place. Martin Todd completed another Aussie 1, 2,
3 with his 32 points good enough to take third spot on a count back from
Walter Baechli.
Mike Winfield finished on top in B Flight with 37 points
and a count back was necessary to determine second and third spots with The
Admiral beating Thientong Charoenrung, both with 35 points. Kenny Chung
finished in fourth place with 33 points.
A Flight
1st Andre Van Dyk (15) 37pts
2nd Mike Gosden (11) 35pnts
3rd Martin Todd (7) 32pts
4th Walter Baechli (16) 32pts
B Flight
1st Mike Winfield (23) 37pts
2nd Dave Richardson (23) 35pts
3rd Thientong Charoenrung (20)
35pts
4th Kenny Chung (26) 33pts
Near Pins: 8th Andre Van
Dyk; 13th Karl Baeker; 17th Ken
Bernek
Long Putts: 9th Martin Todd;
18th Martin Todd
The Compass Cap was on the day won by Karl Baeker who
kindly made the mandatory donation to charity and Deefa the Dog was taken
for a walk by Hunter and collected lots of donations from our good hearted
Kronny Crew.

Chad makes hay while the boys are away
PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, August 29, Khao
Kheow – Stableford
After all the rain the previous night it was a wonder
this course was even open for play; it does say something for the drainage
on the course. Only 14 players (13 in the comp) turned up and we were off a
little ahead of schedule for a four hour round, which is fantastic
considering no carts on the course at all.
There was a shower just as our leading group got to the
3rd tee then it was gone and apart from being very heavy underfoot it, was
not too bad.
The scores were a reflection of the pretty tough
conditions; 34 being the best on the day by Wes Rado, the next was a count
back between Keith Gilfether and Alan Ansell, both with 31 points with Keith
getting the nod over Alan. In fourth was Bob Dibben with 30 points and
coming in fifth was Tim Knight in a three-way count back over Suzi Lawton
and John O’Keefe.
Then it was back to Outback for the customary BBQ.
1st Wes Rado (13/Hi12.5) 33pts
2nd Keith Gilfether (10/Hi9.6)
31pts
3rd Alan Ansell (24/Hi22.1) 31pts
Tuesday, August 30,
Pattaya C.C. – Stableford
Only nine players out today as most of the guys were away
at Hua Hin. The course was in good condition after the rains on Sunday and
Monday - the only problem it looks as if they are losing the greens, saying
that, they were still running true today.
There were no two’s on the day so we paid out first,
second and third in one division. Coming in first with 39 points to now 16
handicap was Barry Chadbourn with Phompinmon Seesa second with 36 and Kurt
Eric Persson in third on 35.
1st Barry Chadbourn (17/Hi16.9)
39pts
2nd Seesa Phompinmon (31/Hi27.7)
36pts
3rd Kurt Eric Persson (30/Hi29.5)
35pts
Wednesday, August 31,
Burapha – Stableford
No carts on the fairways today meant winter rules but it
really wasn’t that bad, not as heavy underfoot as Khao Kheow on Monday. The
17 Outbackers played A and B off the blues, but with the course still in
fantastic condition with no real wet spots that required relief from water,
there were some great scores returned.
The Capt’, coming back from an extended break of about
six weeks from golf, has all but lost his chances of getting sympathy from
the General for a handicap adjustment; shooting 81 gross has scuttled the 14
H’cap he was expecting to get.
Still to win on the day you needed to beat Tim Knight
playing off 25, who scored 41 points off his adjusted handicap and was cut
two, with in second, Tommy Jenson (21) with 40 points and third was the
Capt’ (11) with 38. Considering that John O’Keefe (19) and Wes Rado (15)
scored 36 & 35 respectively, the scores weren’t too bad at all.
There were no ‘2’s.
1st Tim Knight (25/Hi21.3) 41pts
2nd Tommy Jensen (21/Hi17.6) 40pts
3rd Bob Philp (11/Hi8.9) 38pts
4th John O’Keefe (19/Hi16.4) 36pts
5th Wes Rado (15/Hi12.5) 35pts
Friday, Sept. 2, Green
Valley – Stableford
After some light rain at the beginning of the round, it
turned out to be a good day for golf with a good turnout of some 34
Outbackers, four of whom just came for a hit and did not take part in the
comp. The course was in OK condition although the greens were reported once
again as being slow.
Brian Maddox bounced back from his poor showing in Hua
Hin earlier in the week, with the day’s top score of 37 points to win Div C,
ahead of Ed Horrocks (36) and Mam (32); with Owen Walkley also doing the
same in Div A as he won that with 36 points, beating a newcomer to the
Outback, Dennis Pelly (35) and Steve Mann (34). Barry Copestake continues to
stay one step ahead of the handicapper as he took Div B with 35 points off
13, beating the PSC Golf Chairman, Joe Mooneyham (34) by one.
There were six ‘2’s:- three on hole 4; Paul Bourke, Jim
Brackett & Joe Mooneyham; and three on hole 9; Paul Greenaway and one more
each from Jim & Joe.
Div A (0–12)
1st Owen Walkley (9/Hi9.5) 36pts
2nd Dennis Pelly (12/Hi12.3) 35pts
3rd Steve Mann (10/Hi11.1) 34pts
Div B (13-17)
1st Barry Copestake (13/Hi13.3)
35pts
2nd Joe Mooneyham (14/Hi14.4) 34pts
3rd John Stafford (16/Hi16.5) 33pts
Div C (18+)
1st Brian Maddox (18/Hi18.4) 37pts
2nd Ed Horrocks (21/Hi20.7) 35pts
3rd Phompinmon Seesa (26/Hi27.7)
32pts
Note: The Outback Golf Bar is situated about 6km
from Sukhumvit Road along Soi Siam Country. All are welcome to come and join
us for a beer and a hit. Just call in and put your name down on the list or

Larry takes it to the Max
PSC golf from The Golf Club Sports Bar
Larry Maxey & Jim Dundon.
Monday, August 29, Green
Valley - Stableford
1st Larry Maxey (19) 43pts
2nd Jim Dundon (15) 39pts
3rd Brad Gearie (13) 36pts
Just when your game is coming good, you have to get on a
plane and head back home! Such is the story of the top 3 golfers at Green
Valley this week. Funny how that works, but that’s the way it played out and
it now gives the rest of us a chance at the glory.
In actual fact, Larry Maxey has had a good run (once he
got his drives straightened out) and so deserves the top spot with a
brilliant 43 points. Nothing wrong with a 39 from Jim Dundon and I would
take that score any day of the week. Brad Gearie put it on auto-pilot for
his steady 36 before he leaves on a jet plane, but then he does that 4 days
a week, being a pilot.
Green Valley is in great shape and will continue to be
our Monday fixture for the foreseeable future.
Mark Wood, Bob Newell & Brad
Gearie.
Wednesday, August 31,
Phoenix - Stableford
1st Marlene Prudden (24) 42pts
2nd Mark Wood (10) 39pts
3rd Brad Gearie (14) 38pts
Chipping it close and sinking monster putts were on the
menu for Marlene “Queenie” Prudden on this momentous day for her at Phoenix.
Under beautiful blue skies, Marlene posted a great score to keep the lads in
line and ended up at the top of the pack with an admirable 42 Stableford
points. With husband Brian to cheer her along, she easily dominated the
field to win by 3 points on the day. You go girl!
Marlene & Brian Prudden.
Mark Wood turned in a 39 which should have been enough
for a victory but not on this outing. Brad Gearie once again took a podium
spot with a steady 38 before heading off back home to Oz. Well played to all
and we will be back next month to Phoenix for sure.
Friday, Sept. 2, Eastern
Star - Stableford
1st Bob Newell (8) 37pts
2nd Brad Gearie (14) 32pts
3rd Mark Wood (10) 3 pts
Setting off to Eastern Star on Friday it was cloudy with
a bit of rain as we left, but the skies cleared for us yet again for a
lovely day of golf. We probably should have played preferred lies, but the
buggy in the middle of the 1st fairway made it seem that if they were
allowed on the course, it shouldn’t be that wet. It was. Eastern Star was
chopped up pretty badly on many fairways and most of it was due to the carts
driven by the caddies. They had no clue as to the damage they were causing,
and our objections were falling on deaf ears.
This was the first time in 7 months we ventured out to
the Robert Trent Jones Jr. course, a hefty 45 minutes drive down the road.
It was disappointing to see not much has changed and the staff are not
treating her with the respect she deserves. It is one thing for a course to
get run down because of lack of funds, grass disease or severe weather, but
to see it in this condition just because of negligence was shameful. I know
we have all complained about a mandatory cart path only policy or a 90
degree cart rule, but today was just the opposite and we all wanted to keep
the carts on the path!
Anyway, off we went, muddy balls and all, to play a
beautiful layout on a beautiful day. Yes, it was the same conditions for all
of us, but some handled it better than others.
For Bob Newell, it was his first day of “Bob’s Friday
Golf” at The Golf Club and he showed the rest of us how to handle it. With a
5 point difference over 2nd place, Bob’s 37 pints…I mean points… was an
amazing standard for the day. Well played mate. Brad Gearie had a
respectable 32 and Mark Wood had another round that was on the podium with
31 points.
Bob will be hosting the golf every Friday in September,
so come out and join us for a fun day out.
Thanks to all for participating in this week’s fixtures,
and don’t forget to check us out on facebook /golfclubpattaya for updates
and the September golf schedule.

off Soi Buakhao and Soi Diana junction. We can be reached on 085 434 3377 or

Tananusorn back on top
IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
On Monday, 29th August, the Pattaya Golf Society made the
popular trip to Bangpra to play its monthly medal round on the course which
was in fine condition despite being very wet from days of sporadic rain, but
thankfully the rain held off for the whole competition.
As expected the course played very long and flooded
bunkers held hidden secrets as one golfer found to his distress when two of
his golf balls were deemed “lost” during play!
The two flights were divided at nineteen and under and in
the second division Tim Lazecki’s progress saw him post net 80 for third
place behind the joint winners Evan Miller and Benny Hansen, both on net 79.
In the top flight Andy Robinson made third place with net
78, a long way behind second placed Haruyuki Kato with his fine net 73. The
winner was Wichai Tananusorn and had it not been for an uncharacteristic
triple bogey on sixteen his net 72 would have seen the sub-par round his
game deserved.
There were no birdie ‘2’s and the Booby Bevy went to a
delighted Jean Morel for his high scoring round. The group’s first
twenty-plus field for a few weeks had all enjoyed the day at Bangpra.
Double for Wichai
A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do... bullets have to
be bitten... pride has to be swallowed... yes, Century Chonburi was on the
agenda for the Pattaya Golf Society on Wednesday, 31st August when the Soi
Buakhao based group visited to play a stableford competition on the cheap
and cheerful course.
The track has an excellent design and a local competition
rule covered the embarrassment of the bunkers so that the group could expect
and play a course in reasonable condition for the price of a few beers!
Fairways there are well grassed but the greens were horribly slow after the
F1 rated greens at Bangpra two days before. The course was well populated
with another popular Pattaya group as well as the usual sprinkling of Thais
pretending they were at Augusta.
Benny Hansen arrived breathless at the course after an
early call to immigration and proceeded to impress the final group with his
skills which produced 31 points for third place, whilst ahead on his final
round for a few months was Don Nellis who managed 33 points for second. Both
golfers are currently the in-form men at the PGS and a third, Wichai
Tananusorn, took the day with a fine 34 point total for his second
consecutive win.
There were no birdie ‘2’s and the group all retired to
various parts of Pattaya for their post round refreshment, security and
comfort not being in Century Chonburi’s vocabulary, sadly.
The Booby Bevy went to newest member Phil McClure after
an alcohol free Tuesday had left him chasing the group out of the Elephant
Bar at departure having only just made it on time. Those who had joined him
had all enjoyed a different day out at Century.
Australia Day at Eastern Star
September began for the Pattaya Golf Society with a trip
to Eastern Star on Friday, 2nd. The course is improving every visit and the
greens are better now than at any time in the last three years as a result
of the appointment of a new course superintendent.
The group had the misfortune to follow a larger than
normal regular Friday group off the tee and as a result five hours toiling
in the humidity in Ban Chang took its toll on the scores.
Sharing second place on 30 points were the Aussie duo of
Tim Knight and Brendan Gilsenan but both were out-paced by compatriot Tony
Thorne whose new putting style has had an immediate effect on his form.
Thirty five points is an excellent return on a course which has become much
tougher over the recent years.
There were no birdie ‘2’s and the Booby Bevy went to
another Aussie, Bryan Barrell for his low score return, giving the
“antipodeans” a clean sweep in the headlines. Maybe the other golfers
representing US, UK and Japan can gatecrash the “down-under” party next time
out?

Vincenzi prevails at damp Pattana
Jomtien Golf with the I.P.G.C.
(From R to L) Friday’s
flight winners: Noi Emmerson, Jon Lay, Harry
Vincenzi and Glyn Evans.
Monday, August 29,
Pattana – Stableford
There was heavy rain here overnight and a few
cancellations before we arrived to a totally deserted course with the A
nine being closed as well. There were only four groups out today with
two divisions for the men. The cut was 7-19 in division 1 and 20+ in
division 2, it was a very damp course and ‘pick, clean and place’ was
implicated from the first tee.
Harry Vincenzi took the top podium position in
division 1 with 36 points, with Bob Poole second after beating Chris
Voller on a 16/15 back nine count back after they both scored 31 points.
Bryan Priestley won division 2 with 27 points and
before his return to the UK for two months, Ian Hart claimed second with
24.
There were no 2’s in any division so with two
rollovers in division 1 and six in division 2 it’s all to play for at
Greenwood on Wednesday.
Wednesday, August 31, Greenwood - Stableford
As we left Siam Cats the clouds were dark and gloomy
in the distance as we headed up the 331 towards Greenwood. We arrived
with an unexpected blue sky over the course and this remained for most
of the day.
There was only one division out today, all saving
themselves for Friday, and the best score of the day was 36 by Tony
Thorne. Count back Burnie took second spot with 31 points and in the
frame again was Neville Scurrell who claimed third with 29.
There were six rollovers in division 2 in the 2’s and
with a birdie on B5 Burnie Sinclair took the jackpot. There were three
rollovers in division 1 to Plutaluang on Monday.
It was bon voyage today to Colin James, see you soon
Colin.
Friday, Sept. 2,
Eastern Star - Stableford
Yet again there was heavy rain in Jomtien around
seven a.m. and a few cancellations on the phone, but there were still 5
ladies and 44 men out today in a four divisional competition. In the
men’s league the cut was 6-14 in division 1, 15-20 for division 2 and
21+ in division three.
On the journey to the course the rain was spasmodic
but as we arrived it dried up but there were still dark clouds all
around.
There were 13 groups out in the rollover kitty
extravaganza game with many technical prizes to be won. The best score
of the day in all four divisions was 37 from John Lay who won division
1. Mikael Andersson took second one point behind John and Bill Bertram
was third with 35.
Thirty seven points also won division 2 for Harry
Vincenzi while ‘Mr. No car’ Andy Baber was second with 35 after beating
Frank Kelly on a 21/16 back nine count back.
The Hua Hin man, Glyn Evans took out division 3 with
35 points and Brian Blackford was second, beating Jim Lane on a 13/12
back six count back after they both scored 31 points.
Noi Emmerson was the winner of the ladies division
with 32 points ahead of Miss Nut in second on 31 while the Burapha
caddie Miss Kung had a disastrous day and returned her lowest score for
some considerable time of 19 points.
Near Pins: Miss Nut, Darren Smyth, Mikael
Andersson, Johnny Larsson, Arthur Hancock, Frank Kelly, Glyn Evans, Joe
McArdle, Karl Flood and Chris Slota.
2’s: Mikael Andersson, Frank Kelly, Darren Smyth,
Chris Slota and Miss Nut.
Other technical prizes:
1st - Nearest the pin in 2
shots: Miss Nut, Tom Sathrum and Grant Cadell.
2nd Nearest the pin in 2 shots:
Jon Lay, Grant Cadell and Darren Smyth.
4th Nearest the pin in 3 shots:
Miss Nut, Ian Speirs, Neville Scurrell and Rod Howett.
8th Nearest the pin in 3 shots:

Parker puts on a show
at Pattaya Country Club
PSC golf from The Bunker Bar
Monday, August 29, Khao
Kheow - Stableford
Only one good round worth mentioning today which was
played by Tony Robbins who won with a very respectable 35 Stableford points.
Second and third places went to Colin Greig and Raleigh Gosney respectively,
Raleigh beating Geoff Hart on a count back.
1st Tony Robbins (12) 35pts
2nd Colin Greig (10) 28pts
3rd Raleigh Gosney (18) 25pts
Near Pins: Raleigh Gosney, Colin Greig, Geoff
Hart.
Wednesday,
August 31, Green Valley - Stableford

The girls are back in town
The girls and their partners get
some early practice in at Soi Dao Highlands Golf Resort.
Not that Pattaya needs more girls. But these ones are not
the “up to you” variety, but the “you want what?” variety.
Yes, after several years of being scattered around the
globe, the Women With a Mission (WWM) are all back on the Eastern Seaboard.
This wonderful group of three expatriate women has been working tirelessly
within Thailand for years. They first came together to provide support for
the tsunami victims who fell through the aid net in the south of Thailand.
Then, through work commitments of their husbands they were suddenly
scattered across the globe, but they still managed to keep their
organisation running. The power of the Internet and Skype came to the fore.
Since the tsunami they have shifted their focus back into this part of
Thailand as well as the refugee camps along the border of Burma.
Rosy has been the cornerstone of the group. She has
remained a Pattaya resident while Bronwyn descended to Australia and Kylie
was relocated to live in such exotic locations as Turkmenistan and Egypt.
Through all this they remained good friends, connected and importantly, kept
their great charity movement alive.
The stars have finally aligned, and because of a series
of bizarre career movements they all find themselves residents, once again
of the Eastern Seaboard. Soi Dao Highlands Golf Resort was chosen for their
reunion event. Wet weather prevailed. It was galoshes rather than golf
shoes, but all had a great time.
The girls are honing their golf skills in preparation for
their major fundraiser of the year - the WWM Golf Tournament at the famed
challenging Pattana Golf Resort close to Pattaya. Kylie has previously
avoided golf at all cost, but now finds herself enjoying bi-weekly lessons
and the occasional ‘hack’ around a course. Bronwyn is swinging away, and
Rosy has been practicing her skills with close friends all year.
This article is a shameless plug for one of the greatest
charities in Thailand. The girls run the organisation with no expenses taken
(but with the generous support of their husbands!), and put in hours of
effort to assist the seriously disadvantaged within our borders. This
tournament will help feed and support literally hundreds of children.
Pattaya golfers have all sorts of opportunities to play
the great courses of our area, and often support worthwhile causes while
doing so. The choices are many, but if you are going to support one other
event this year, then we recommend the WWM 3rd Annual Charity Golf
Tournament to you. It is not just a case of giving; it is also a case of
receiving.
Contact Kylie, Bronwyn or Rosy on [email protected] or
087-482 3520 (Kylie), 089-898 0658 (Bronwyn), or 081-865 0714 (Rosy) for
more details.
