About 2,000 more area families received additional compensation for damage caused by local flooding in September and October.

Chonburi Gov. Khomsan Ekachai, Banglamung District Chief Chawalit Saeng-Uthai and Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome presented the 2.7 million baht in funds from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security at Pattaya School No. 2 Feb. 9.

To date, 1,367 families have registered with city hall for relief payments and the government has handed out 10.4 million baht in compensation.

The funds handed out came from the national government’s flood-disaster compensation fund. While Pattaya suffered nowhere near the flooding damage of central Thailand or Bangkok, families could qualify for the stipend if they had to evacuate their homes quickly or lived in flooded conditions for seven days.

Flood victim Jaroon Sukhsomjit said he appreciated the continued government support and hopes to have his home and life restore to pre-flood conditions soon.
