The Royal Thai Navy’s Ordinance Department celebrated
its 104th anniversary by handing out more than 700,000 baht in
scholarships for children of enlisted personnel.
The June 28 Founder’s Day event at Sanphawuth School
in Sattahip saw 355 scholarships awarded: 178 to Prathorn-level students
worth 1,500 baht each, 72 for junior Matthayom worth 2,000 baht each, 67
senior Matthayom scholarships worth 3,000 baht each, and 38 vocational
school scholarships worth 4,000 baht each.
The 764,000 baht in awards was sponsored by the Naval
Ordnance Department Saving and Credit Cooperative’s Social Welfare fund
and local businesses.
Navy officials said the scholarships were a way to
ease the financial burden on the country’s military personnel.
