Bangkok Airways welcome Jackie Chan

Bangkok Airways’ senior passenger services

Chan as he leaves Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phnom Penh to be a special
keynote speaker at the “Bridges - Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace
forum” organized by the International Peace Foundation.
Chiang Mai high season bodes well for hotels

Chiang Mai hotels are expecting stronger business for the last
three months of the year compared to the same period last year,
albeit at reduced prices due to expanding inventory.
Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association (CMTBA) secretary
general and marketing promotion chairman Vorapong Muchaotai said
members had reported better booking numbers for the current high
season compared to the disastrous season last year that was
ruined by the closure of Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and the
onset of the financial crisis.
CMTBA had reported a 20 percent drop year-on-year in average
occupancy for Chiang Mai hotels from January to September.
Holiday Inn Chiang Mai general manager Vern Silananda said,
while bookings in the last quarter of this year were expected to
be better, room rates would continue to be soft.
He said Chiang Mai hotels were facing intense price competition
from apartments and condominiums, which were going at 350 baht
to 700 baht a night. The price war had left five-star boutique
hotels at just 3,000 baht to 3,800 baht a night and other
five-star properties commanding just above 1,000 baht a night.
Northern Thai mart to become annual affair

The Thailand-based Northern Eco and Adventure Mart will turn into an annual
event from next year.
Organizers said one of the reasons for the change in frequency from a biennial
show was the anticipated boost in funding from the Tourism Authority of Thailand
(TAT).
The mart made its debut this year in Chiang Mai, from November 6 to 8. It was
organized by the TAT, Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association and Thai
Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association (TEATA).
TEATA president Duangkamol Chansuriyawong said the inaugural mart had just a
half-day buyers-meet-sellers session as organizers wanted to test the market and
familiarize buyers with Thai eco and adventure travel suppliers from the
northern region.
She said the next event would most likely be held in a central Thai province for
suppliers from all parts of the country and would include buyers from longhaul
markets.
Thongyoo Suphavittayakorn, managing director of Thai tour operator Antil, said
the Thai eco and adventure travel product segment had potential to grow and
attract more FIT tourists but marketing show focus on longhaul buyers.
SAS Thailand reduces fares and
includes all taxes in ticket price
Scandinavian Airlines has reduced ticket prices between Bangkok and Scandinavia.
Economy class prices are now 20% lower than before. SAS has also taken the
initiative to include all taxes and surcharges in its quoted ticket prices. The
new policy came into effect November 9.
“Our aim at SAS is to make it easier for travelers to plan their trips,” said
Hakan Olsson, Bangkok-based director and general manager for SAS in Southeast
Asia. “With SAS all-inclusive pricing, travelers now see the total cost - no
extra hidden fees, no plus-plus. Just great service and hassle-free traveling.”
Each economy class seat is ergonomically designed and includes a personal touch
screen with 46 videos, 30 music channels and 10 games.
SAS flights to Scandinavia in Economy Extra seats include extra space, on-demand
audio-visual screen, business class check-ins and 150% EuroBonus points.
Business Class seats include a sleeper seat with video-audio on demand, lounge
