The Pattaya Social Welfare Promotion Department provided free eye exams
while raising funds to purchase equipment for the disabled.
Department chief Theeraporn Sreejan led the July 4 program, which saw
area residents lining up from morning until afternoon for the free exams
and glasses.

Theeraporn said the program was part of a project
that also solicited donations for wheelchairs and other mobility devices
for the disabled. The tradeoff of free eye exams for donations allows
the city to defray costs while giving the public a chance to make merit,
she said.
At the event, the city also handed out 100,000 baht in wheelchairs,
glasses and other equipment to the disabled and poor.
Optometrists tested vision, measured glasses prescriptions and gave
patients vouchers to collect free spectacles in a few weeks. The event
also provided a forum for the public to complain about other social
problems.
