More than 2,000 public officials, private organizers and
students turned out to support a royally backed campaign against
domestic violence hosted by the Pattaya Prosecutor’s Office at the
Alangkarn Theatre.
Attorney General Julsingh Wasansingh led the roster of public officials
at the Aug. 25 stage show, concert and rally, which included Chonburi,
Banglamung and Pattaya leaders, MP Poramet Ngampichet and Chonburi
Police Superintendent Maj. Gen. Khatcha Thatsart.
While the event was not a fundraiser, attendance was viewed as
supporting the campaign against violence towards children and women
begun by HRH Princess Bajarakitiyabha, who is Thailand’s goodwill
ambassador in the “Say No to Violence Against Women” campaign.
The day also promoted the missions and results of the Department of
Civil Rights Protection and Legal Aid Office.
Exhibits on display at the theater illustrated the domestic-violence
crisis in Thailand where one in three women and children have been
victims of physical, sexual or mental abuse, authorities said.
Students from Pattaya’s 11 public schools put on both dramatic and
musical stage presentations showing the reality of how children,
particularly girls, are treated at home, at school and in public.
Children also received games and stuffed toys from campaign sponsors.
Thai stars ‘Thae’ Uthain Prommin (pop singer), ‘Too’ Direk (disco
singer), and Thai Thanawut (rock singer) also performed a mini-concert.
