Two cargo ships collided off Pattaya’s far islands, causing
damage to the vessels, but no injuries.
The CN Jumbos, an empty Maltese-registered vessel en route from
Indonesia to Koh Sichang, struck the Anton Topic, a Liberian vessel
transporting cement from Koh Sichang to Malaysia, 8 kilometers southwest
of Koh Larn, near Koh Rin March 31.
The First Naval Area Command and Marine Department Region 6 vessels
responded to the accident, which was recorded by the Vessel Traffic
Management and Information System.
The 165.5-meter Jumbos was listing five degrees to starboard after water
penetrated three cargo compartments. However, the ship remained afloat
and no oil leaked into Pattaya Bay.
The Anton Topic, 185 meters long, sustained damaged to the port side,
but leaked no oil and limped into Laem Chabang Port for repairs.
Marine Department officials aided in repairs to the Jumbos, which
dropped anchor near the accident site. The ship was pumped out and
righted before making its way to Sriracha for repairs.
