Representatives from 62 countries will meet in Pattaya May 19-21 as
the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development relocates from Bangkok.
Cherdkiat Atphakorn, vice deputy-general of the Department of International
Organization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presided over a May 8
planning meeting with national and local politicians, police and utility
companies at the Royal Cliff Grand Hotel event site.
The forum, organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the
Pacific was originally scheduled to be held at the United Nations Conference
Center in Bangkok, but was moved to Pattaya due to continued political
unrest in the capital.
The preparation meeting today was organized to assign various
responsibilities for safety emergencies and management of the conference
site.
Cherdkiat requested agencies in Chonburi and Pattaya manage and maintain
safety and order within and around Royal Cliff Grand Hotel and Region 2
Police prepare safety measures with Tourist, Marine and Highway police.
He informed the meeting that the conference is a meeting of leaders and
ministers and requested the Department of Protocol to meet with minor
agencies, Royal Thai Police and others regarding security.
