St. Andrews IB students celebrate their graduation

St. Andrews IB students throwing up their mortar boards to celebrate their graduation.

Charlotte Harris- IB coordinator
On Friday evening, the Y13 students at St Andrew’s International School reached the grand finale of their scholastic journey: their Graduation! After weeks of revision and lengthy examinations the graduates arrived at the Centara Grand Mirage, sporting their academic gowns and mortar boards, tired but elated; relieved and excited in equal measure. Chatting amicably with family, friends and staff they posed for photos, relishing the congratulations.
The graduates then took their seats and were spoken about in turn, by teachers who knew them well and took pleasure in outlining the students’ trials and tribulations during their time at St Andrews. A sumptuous dinner was then served, conversation flowed and the graduates toasted.
After dinner Mr. Harrison, the Head of School, spoke of the special nature of the outgoing Y13 class. He praised their diligence and compassion and underlined the importance of their exceptionally close but inclusive friendships with each other.

The girls from the IB programme elegantly pose for their photographs.

Beautiful bouquets of flowers and the all-important graduation certificates were then presented to each of the 17 graduating students. Mortar boards were tossed in the air to cheers from their supporters; the celebratory gesture captured by the attendant photographers.
Having sat back with their families, the graduates were then treated to a compilation of photos from their early childhoods through to their final weeks at school. Some photos were poignant, some downright hilarious and the graduates laughed and cried through the presentation, remembering the fantastic time that they have had together.
Finally they were invited to speak. Their speeches were heartfelt and full of emotion. They spoke of their love for their friends and family, their gratitude to their teachers and parents and their thanks for their time together. Their obvious affection for each other was touching and when they had finished they embraced each other, overwhelmed by the emotional rollercoaster of the last few months. They left as they had arrived; arm in arm, chatting happily.
Goodbye and good luck Y13, you are a fantastic group of students and we wish you all the best with your futures. Adventure is waiting!

Regents excel in LAMDA examinations

Regents LAMDA students ham it up for the camera.

The students at Regents International School Pattaya proved yet again that Drama is not only an enormously popular subject to study but also one at which they excel.
Sixty-four Regents students recently received their grades for the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) examinations: 30% were graded with ‘Distinction’ and 55% with ‘Merit’, an impressive set of results by any standards.
Three students on the IB Diploma course, Grace, Erin and Anastasia, achieved Distinction in the Grade 8 Gold Award.
Drama at Regents is about far more than just learning acting and stagecraft. It builds confidence and encourages young people to communicate clearly and with character, a much-prized skill when it comes to leading a meeting, delivering a speech and being interviewed. And it’s never too early to start learning these skills - for the first time in the school’s history, Primary-aged children were entered for the LAMDA examinations.

Future astronaut talks Space Travel at St. Andrew’s International School

Pirada talks about her future mission into space.

Kerry Sutherland
On Thursday, June 22nd St Andrews was proud to welcome Pirada Techavijit - as our guest speaker - who is poised to become the first Thai person in space. Pirada, a satellite control engineer at the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, is one of only 23 people chosen from across the world to make the trip into space.
Dressed impressively in her flight suit, Pirada shared some insights into her educational background and the selection process she went through to qualify to travel into space. Students were fascinated by her story, particularly when she described the training she received including the G-force simulator! Not only did Pirada share her story, she was also happy to pose for photos with enthusiastic students and even sign some autographs.
Thank you so much Pirada, you are a real inspiration. We wish you all the best for your trip into space and look forward to welcoming you back when you have completed your journey.

St. Andrews students enjoy having their photo taken with the Pirada.

Year 13 students at Regents International School Pattaya celebrated their graduation in style at the Hilton Hotel in Pattaya. In a ballroom filled with family, friends and well-wishers, the 32 young men and women, who have just completed their rigorous two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma course, enjoyed an awards ceremony and a formal Graduation Ball.

The students must now wait until July to receive their grades from the IB Diploma course and confirmation that they have achieved places at their first-choice university destinations. University offers have been particularly impressive this year, with eleven students set to join universities ranked within the World’s top 100 (World Ranking in brackets): The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) (12); London School of Economics (32); The University of Melbourne (34); King’s College London (38); The University of Hong Kong (43); Seoul National University (44); University of California Davis (52); Erasmus University Rotterdam (73); Maastricht University (98); and York University (100).
Equally as impressive is the spread of degree courses they have selected to study, including Law, Economics, Fine Arts, Politics and International Relations, Management, Biomedical Genetics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Pharmacy, Psychology, Computer Science, Journalism, Optometry and Sports Therapy.
Principal Mike Walton commented, “I would like to congratulate these students for the hard work and perseverance they have shown during their time at Regents. We shall miss them but I’m confident that each of them will go on to achieve great things in the future.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Hilton Hotel, who went out of their way to make this event a great success, even in the face of a 10pm curfew!”

Head Boy and Head Girl for 2013-2014, Kun Woo and Joyce, address their fellow graduates.

Fern beams with pride after receiving her award.

In true graduation tradition, students throw their mortar boards high into the air in celebration.
