Suicide is suspected in the case of an older Italian man whose body
washed ashore in North Pattaya.
Fully clothed and wearing shoes, Antonio Lardo died of apparent drowning
June 14, two days before his 62nd birthday. The body had suffered only a
cut to the head, possibly from offshore rocks. He had been dead about
three hours.
Local motorbike-taxi driver Nattawut Chalermpong, 26, said he’d seen
Lardo three days earlier looking like a homeless person and wandering
aimlessly on the beach. He saw him later drinking water on the beach,
looking depressed.
Police suspected financial troubles might have prompted his suicide or
simply his upcoming birthday prompted his death.
