Deputy Treasurer Worawait
Saisuphatpol said the National Council for Peace and Order had ordered
lottery-ticket prices set at 80 baht in Bangkok and surrounding
provinces.
Junta-ordered lower prices for lottery tickets is
leading to big business in Chonburi.
Treasurer Thaweesak Yimtrakul led staff to visit ticket sellers on
Wachiraprakarn Road in Muang District July 4. Wachiraprakarn is the
largest market for lottery tickets in the province.
Deputy Treasurer Worawait Saisuphatpol said the National Council for
Peace and Order had ordered lottery-ticket prices set at 80 baht in
Bangkok and surrounding provinces, capping prices at 90 baht in other
provinces.
Tickets will be allocated to middle- and lower-income sellers and
disabled brokers. The NCPO said the plan is aimed at giving
disadvantaged sellers opportunities to earn a stable income.
Chonburi announced it would help smaller vendors by setting up a market
for them at the Phakdee Pavilion next to the Rama V monument and in
front of Krung Thai Bank next to city hall.
Seller Jongkol Kruewongphainbun said she has been selling tickets for 80
baht for some time. She earns about 6 baht off each ticket, she said.
Sales have increased since the NCPO order. (CPRD)
