Three dead dolphins washed up on Pattaya beaches in just two days, all
apparent victims of fishing nets.
A meter-long dolphin weighing about 30 kg. was found on the rocky shoreline
behind the Cape Dara Resort Sept. 2. It had cuts and abrasions typical for being
caught in a trawler’s net and marine officials said it appeared to have been
dead about two weeks.
It was taken to the Sea Turtle Conservation Center in Sattahip for an autopsy.
The previous day, another dolphin was found in approximately the same area and a
third on the beach near Walking Street.
Wuthichai Kham-ai of the Sea Rescue Center said big groups of dolphins typically
follow currents in Pattaya Bay. But recent storms caused a change in sea
patterns and the animals may have wandered into fishing areas.
