The Sattahip Naval Base handed out over 600,000 baht in scholarships to families of navy personnel.
Vice Adm. Rerngrit Boonsongprasert, commander of the Savings and Credit Cooperatives, presided over the annual scholarship ceremony Sept. 19 at the Sanyabat Club. Top navy officers attended, along with executives from Saha Life Insurance Co. and management of the Omsin Bank.
Scholarship committee member Capt. Tawatchai Pimueng said the cooperative has awarded stipends for 14 years, this year handing out 247 scholarships worth 621,000 baht. Of that, Saha donated 50,000 baht while Omsin Bank contributed 3,000 baht and Krungthai Bank’s Sriracha branch chipped in 2,000 baht.
Scholarships were broken into two groups, outstanding students and students demonstrating financial hardship.
The outstanding-student group saw 11 grants worth 5,000 baht handed out for higher education, seven 3,000-baht scholarships for vocational school, twenty-two 3,000-baht awards for high school and 14 scholarships of 3,000 baht for junior-high students.
Needy students received thirteen 3,000-baht scholarships for higher education, nine vocational-school grants of 2,500 baht, 67 awards of 2,500 baht for high school students, and 35 stipends of 2,000 baht for elementary students. Also awarded were 29 stipends for pre-school education of 2,000-baht each.
Rerngrit said the scholarships came from donations and profits from the naval cooperative’s operations.
