Bloomin’ Weather!

The unseasonable rainy spell has certainly not dampened the spirits of the hardy young horticulturalists in Mr Rob’s natural science class.

Rain or shine, it’s good to see these tender young shoots in such capable hands.

Mr Rob, head of the science department at the International School of Pattaya, has been helping his young gardeners grow their own vegetables as part of their biology lessons.

“It’s sometimes a surprise to the students that all food doesn’t come from a supermarket,” Mr Rob says. “When they find out how good really fresh food tastes, well, it’s only that I am such a keen sportsman that stops them from digging up the school football field and turning it into a vegetable patch!”

ISR Primary students hold Red Nose charity event

Red Nose Day is a fund-raising event held every two years by the charity Comic Relief and was last week supported by the primary students of the International School of the Regents.

Red-nosed students and teachers dance a giant conga at ISR last week.

The charity, which aims to fight poverty and social injustice, is involved in various projects world-wide, providing services such as immunisation, medical care and education, particularly in Africa.

ISR primary students and teachers wore red clothes for the day, making a small donation for the privilege of not having to wear a uniform.

Donations also came from other sources, including a break-time nose painting session and a special comedy assembly, which was a huge success as well as a lot of fun.

One of the highlights of the day was a lunchtime ‘conga’ dance held in the playground with all students and teachers taking part.

The message from Comic Relief is simple – if everyone does his or her bit, then we can make a difference. The commendable total raised on the day – nearly 9,000 baht – is sure to be put to very good use by the charity.

Don’t forget the ISR Easter fete & open day on Saturday, 31st March! Lots of fun for all the family!

Thailand regains the World Cup at GIS

Last week saw the third annual World Cup Football Tournament at Garden School in Ban Chang. Teams composed of staff and students from different areas around the globe competed for the prestigious solid gold trophy.

The Thai team wrestled away the World Cup from the “Rest of the World” team.

The “Rest of the World” team tried desperately to hold onto the trophy after their success last year, but it was firmly wrestled back by the Thai team.

Many thanks to all who competed, it was a good, clean completion, and to the organizers Ms. Burke & Turner.
