Horses for courses: Or is it courses for horses?

For many young girls, horse riding is just a long held and cherished dream; but for some young ladies of the I.S.R. that dream has been realized with the soft opening of the Horseshoe Point Resort and Country Club.

Horseshoe Point’s covered corral

Here in a grand covered ring that must have been designed for Spanish style dressage, children as young as six can learn horseback riding on ponies. Indeed, 6-year-old Isabelle Walker was doing just fine for her first lesson, being shown the way by riding instructor Pedro with her friend, 9-year-old Natalie Kongcharoen with only a few months experience, supremely confident out front in the lead.

Horseshoe Point at the far eastern end of Siam Country Club Road covers an enormous 7 thousand rai of land and is just a dream come true for anyone who loves horses and riding in the outdoors. The resort, which will not be fully completed until December this year, has beautiful large landscaped grounds that has accommodation, restaurants, swimming pool, tennis and squash, spa and complete riding facilities.

There are 2 indoor rings - the one aforementioned for dressage and basic riding instruction built in a grand style Spanish courtyard fashion encircled by accommodation units with their balconies overlooking the ring. There is another covered ring for competition, and a huge outdoor sand field with night lighting, a full sized polo field, a grassed outdoor jumping field, a tack shop, a 24 hour veterinary clinic and 5,000 rai of natural scrub land for trail riding. Not to mention 90 horses; polo horses, Spanish stallions and miniatures, including Lusitanos, Lipizzaners, Alter Reals and Appaloosas, and 200 boarding stables.

Horseshoe Point has every activity available, with basic group riding 8-hour courses at 4,800 baht per child and 8,800 baht per adult. Group Trail riding for an hour is 1000 baht per adult and 600 baht per child. For advanced riding without instructor, horse rental is 800 baht per hour and pony rental is 600 baht per hour. The one stipulation is that every rider shall wear long pants and riding outfits of gloves, riding boots and helmet and yes, they do provide equipment rental at 50 baht per item.

Not only is there basic riding instruction for all levels there is classical riding dressage, high school or Spanish style; sports riding, show jumping dressage, cross country and polo; competition and show training to international levels in polo, jumping, dressage, 3 day events and the classical Portuguese art of riding. If that is not enough, there is general riding, horseback excursions, trail riding, carriage driving and a children’s pony club. Truly every girl’s horse dream experience come true, and when the resort and country club is fully opened next year it will also be a country club where adults can meet and play in a relaxed country atmosphere.
