Chonburi comes out top in To Be Number One regional heats

The To Be Number One Teen Aerobics and Dancercise Thailand Championship 2007 got underway for the Eastern region on December 16 at Central Festival Center, with Chonburi beating other provinces to emerge as victors.
Organized by the Department of Mental Health at the Ministry of Public Health in cooperation with A I Event Co Ltd, the competition is now in its third year and has become recognized for allowing young people to develop exercise skills allied to hip hop, jazz, rock and pop music.
For the Eastern region heats, held over the period 16 and 17 December, 38 teams took part from the provinces of Chonburi, Ratchaburi, Nakorn Nayok, and Kanchanaburi. The teams were divided into two groups, juniors aged eight to 12 years and teenagers aged 13 to 22.

“T Five” from Ratchaburi province show a lot of athletic skill in achieving the runners-up trophy.

Dr Somchai Chakrabhand, director general of the Department of Mental Health, presented awards to the winning teams.
In the junior category, the winning team was That’s Perfect from Chonburi Province, and Chonburi also supplied the winning team in the teenage category, Born To Be Cheered. In addition to honorary plaques each team won scholarships worth 20,000 baht.
This round was held for representatives at provincial level to select regional champions, who will then go on to the national level contest, to be held over the period February 3 and 4 at the Central Festival Shopping Center in Bangkok.
The winning team at the national level will receive an honorary cup from Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya, who is chairperson of the To Be Number One Project, along with scholarships valued at over 100,000 baht.

In the junior category, the winning team was “That’s Perfect” from Chonburi Province.

The show is as much fun for the competitors as it is for those watching it.

“Born To Be Cheered” from Chonburi province, the winning team in the teenage category, hold up one finger to confirm that they are not using narcotics and are following the To be Number One ideals.

An exhibition organized by Pattaya School No 9 was opened on December 25 by Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn, with Deputy Mayor Wattana Chantanawaranon also attending.

Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn hits the gong 3 times to open the exhibition.
The theme of the exhibition was the way in which students are preparing to meet the changing world, while keeping their roots deeply in Thai culture.
After Wutisak banged the gong for the opening, students performed a dance in traditional dress, to the delight of the assembled parents, guests and educators.
The exhibition itself included a mathematics games competition, a science project, soap, vegetable and fruit carving, a Thai boxing demonstration, and a painting competition.
Naklua Post Office Community also participated by bringing a large recycling tank along for display, and the Women’s Development Group from Takhiantia Sub-district and Banna Sub-district opened booths of their own to demonstrate the cooking of local food and the preparation of Thai desserts.

Oxford Junior School holds annual party for parents

On December 20 at the Town in Town Hotel in Central Pattaya, Kamonporn Saetae, director of Oxford Junior School in Pattaya held a party for the parents of the school’s pupils.

Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh and Kamonporn Saetae, director of Oxford Junior School in Pattaya, welcome the children’s parents and give the official opening speech.

Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh presided over the opening, and over a hundred parents took part.
Kamonporn said it was the fifth year the party has been held, and that the event has always proved an ideal setting for parents to meet each other and celebrate Christmas and New Year together.
Oxford Junior School is for kindergarten classes 1 to 3, and teaches English. The school has proved popular with Pattaya families.
Pupils performed a show on stage for the gathering, and souvenir photographs were taken.
