Indian by Nature hosts PILC coffee morning
PILC President Gillian Thom
addresses the 101 ladies who turned up for the club’s first coffee morning
of the year at Indian by Nature.
Elaine Poole, PILC
It was great start to the new Pattaya International Ladies Club year to see
so many at one of the club’s favourite venues, Indian by Nature, and Av
Khanijou, a PILC past vice president, was on hand to greet all 101 ladies!
It was a massive turnout for the first meeting of the year, but Av and her
staff somehow managed to conjure up enough seats for everyone. The reception
desk was hectic with members eager to renew their membership for 2007 and
many new ladies joining for the first time. For 2007, many exciting social
events are being planned.
Eventually, everyone was seated, and President Gillian Thom started the
formalities. After welcoming all she reminded everyone about the Annual
General Meeting at Ocean Marina on February 6, and encouraged everyone to
come along and cast their votes. Volunteers had come forward for most of the
positions, but help was still needed for Trips and Tours Activities and
Gillian asked anyone interested in this position to contact her.
Gillian also asked for volunteers to help continue the good work at the
Garunyawet Home for Handicapped ladies. On the last Friday of each month,
PILC volunteers visit the home, paint the ladies’ nails and put on make up.
All you need is patience and a smile and PILC visits really brighten up the
ladies’ week.
Continuing on Welfare, Rosanne Diamente talked about several welfare
activities; shopping with the Street Kids Home at Carrefour on January
16-17; a Welfare Tour on January 24; and coming soon the Family Day on the
beach, details of which would be circulated later. PILC have a very active
welfare programme planned for 2007, working with many organisations
throughout the area. If you would like more information on any welfare
activities, please contact Rosanne Diamente 081-8650714.
It was then time to try some of the delicious food prepared by the staff at
Indian by Nature. The array of delicacies was impressive, delicious and was
enjoyed by all.
PILC would like to say thank you to Av for her continued support. 2007 got
off to a good start!
If you would like any further information about PILC membership (800 baht
for 2007), social activities, or welfare programmes and sponsorship
opportunities, please contact Gillian Thom, President, 081-7626003.
Indian by Nature is situation in Thappraya Road, Pattaya, and is open every

Tourist police celebrate late New Year’s party
People from different walks of
life celebrate the new year with the tourist police.
Elfi Seitz
If you think police officials are only serious, you would be wrong. On January
21, the tourism police of Pattaya, along with their volunteers, merrily
celebrated a late New Year’s party at school number 8.
The day began with lively and funny sport activities. For example, couples
racing with their legs tied together; seeing the police scamper around like
this, one would never imagine that they are part of a most successful crime
depression department.
That night, karaoke and dancing provided fun and laughter. There was no fee, but
people had to pay to perform.
Honorary guests included Mayor Niran Wattanasartsathorn, Deputy Mayor Verawat
Khakhay, former MP and Sophon Cable boss Chanyuth Hengtrakul and both candidates
for the next mayor election, Ittiphol Khunplome and Surat Mekawarakul, as well
as senior tourist police officials. YWCA President Nittaya Patimasongkroh
attended with some club members, providing some extra charm. One member,
Nuannoot Petchawee of Pattaya Bay Radio FM 103, who is also a police volunteer,
was the presenter of the ceremony, assuring the crowds a cheerful atmosphere.
After their speeches, Niran, Chanyuth and Ittiphol serenaded the assembled
audience, with Ittiphol, especially, being overwhelmed by the ladies giving him
flower bouquets. However, senior tourist police official Jirawat Sukonthasap
received the most offerings. He could barely cope with the weight of all
flowers.
Many jazzy prices were raffled, like a TV with free Sophon Cable courtesy of
Chanyuth.
Richard Burk named new chairman for Pattaya Gay Festival
3.7 million baht raised in 2006
Richard Burk, the owner of Amor Restaurant, has been
elected the new chairman of the Pattaya Gay Festival. This follows the
retirement of chairman Michael Burchall, now living in England, and the
decision by vice-chair Jim Lumsden to take a break from formal
responsibilities on the committee. However, Jim said he was available to
help out as an advisor.
Richard
Burk.
The Pattaya Gay Festival raises money through fundraising events,
principally for Heartt 2000 which assists HIV and AIDS sufferers with
retroviral drugs. In 2006, Heartt 2000 was in fact the only beneficiary and
received almost the entire sum raised which was nearly 3.7 million baht.
This sum was very similar to the total raised in 2005.
Richard said that the duties on the committee would now be shared on a wider
basis. Apart from the officer positions of chairman, treasurer and minutes
secretary, there would be portfolios for events coordination, fund raising,
press liaison and membership matters. The first PGF event of 2007 will be
the Boyztown Street Party to be held on Wednesday February 21.

Siam Bayshore holds thank-you party
The management of Siam Bayshore Resort and Spa invited business partners and
patrons to a party on January 19 to thank them for helping to make 2006 such
a successful year, and to wish everyone luck in 2007.
Three hundred guests turned up for the festivities, which were held in the
hotel’s beautiful gardens.
Group general manager of Siam Hotels Hans Spoerri welcomed all participants
and thanked them in a brief speech for their cooperation and loyalty.
The buffet was luxurious. A wheel of fortune, balloon darts and other
activities were staged, with the winners collecting prizes. More games were
held on the stage.
Hotel staff organized the entertainment program, which started with a
spectacular dance show. The star attraction was a juggler. A raffle was also
held, and everybody could win twice: once with the entrance card and once
with their business card. There was even the chance to participate in a
third raffle, with tickets for sale and the revenue going to Ban Santikam
School in Nong Palai.
Hotel staff put on a dazzling
show.
More than 300 guests attended
the thank you party.
A happy 65th celebrated by Heidi at Swiss House
Birthday girl Heidi (3rd left)
enjoys her birthday surprise with (from left) Hans Schaad, Erwin and Susi
Rohner, Klaus Schneiger and Andy Wenger.

Heidi Wenger, the young looking mom of Andy Wenger, owner of Swiss
House restaurant on Soi Diamond, turned 65 on January 12, and as a surprise
birthday present her son held a party for her in the restaurant, with crowds
of friends turning up to congratulate Heidi and present her with gifts and
flowers.
Benno Schwarz, a famous drummer from Switzerland showed up and played a few
solos for her, much cheered by the big audience. Other entertainers were
Nicki Geisbühler on the accordion and Georg Hilbert playing the keyboard and
showing his skills a singer.
One of the highlights of the evening was Andy’s song “Heidi” which he
dedicated to his mother, and danced a Vienna Waltz with her.
Guests had collected the sum of 15,000 baht, which they gave Heidi to buy
her own birthday present. Heidi, known for her big heart, immediately passed
7,500 baht of the money to Hans Schaad and Susi and Erwin Rohner of the
Rotary Club Taksin Pattaya, and the other 7,500 baht to the president of the
Jass-Club, Klaus Schneider. The money will help underprivileged people and
projects organized by these clubs.
Andy and his wife Ning did once again all to satisfy their guests - and
their mom - by preparing a wonderful meal and serving all kinds of drinks.
Charity Beach B-B-Q at to be held at Pinnacle Resort
Christina Boden
Charity Club of Pattaya plans to hold a Beach B-B-Q on Sunday February 4, to
raise funds to buy wheelchairs and special medical mattresses for the people
in Isaan. The event will be held at the Pinnacle Resort Na Jomtien.
General Manager Ingo Rauber met with Malcolm and Christina and produced a
mouth watering B-B-Q buffet to show support for the club’s first event of
the year.
Ingo and the Pinnacle have supported the Charity Club on many occasions but
this is the first time they have held an event at the Pinnacle Jomtien
Resort & Spa.
The Charity Beach B-B-Q is open to everyone. The ticket price is 500 baht,
which covers the seafood and meat B-B-Q. The B-B-Q starts at 3 p.m. A full
bar is also available.
As always the Charity Club will be holding a raffle, with prizes donated so
far by Patrick’s Belgium Restaurant, Blue Wave Watersports, Cafe New
Orleans, Cuvee Lounge, Rosie O’Gradies, Rabbit Resort and Valentino’s.
While “begging” for her raffle prizes, Christina thought a Sunset Cruise
from Blue Wave Watersports based at the Ocean Marina Yacht Club would be an
ideal prize. Not only did the owners Antony Chapman and Gary Baguley donate
the sunset cruise as a raffle prize, but, to the amazement of Malcolm,
Christina and Vic, Blue Wave Watersports Asia Co. Ltd. have generously
donated two 25ft catamarans and crew, which will be on the beach at the
Pinnacle Resort from 1 p.m. to give the guests at the B-B-Q free 45 minute
trips (weather permitting).
500 baht could never be better spent. Wonderful food, live music, good
company and a very generous offer of a free boat trip and all this while
helping two very worthwhile causes.
The money raised will be used to buy wheelchairs and a special medical
mattress for the people in Isaan, as well as helping a local orphanage that
is in need of help in Huay Yai District, known locally as the Coconut
Orphanage.
If you don’t want to drive, the Queen Victoria Inn has kindly put the pub
mini bus on at 100 baht return; call in the Queen Vic, purchase your ticket
and book your transport at the same time. Contact Malcolm on 0897441040 or
e-mail: charityclubofpattaya@ yahoo.com to buy your tickets. Tickets are
also available at the Queen Victoria Inn Soi 6.
