Two teams from Kasetsart University’s Sriracha campus have passed the Eastern selection round of the MICE Explorer Competition and moved one step closer to the 30,000 baht scholarships prize.

(From left) Pasinee Saengchim, Napasorn Palawasu and Chanamon Niyomdet represent a team from the east and went on to the final round of competition.

The Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Promotion are organizing the event to encourage the interest of students in the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) sector.
Competitors have been grouped into four main occupational groups; designers and creativity, management administration, service, and specialization.
Burapha University was host to the Eastern region selection round on February 5. Nine teams of bachelor-level students from Chonburi and other eastern provinces took part.

Included on the judging committee were Chonaphansa Narula, English language news announcer on Channel 11 and a well-known emcee at numerous international conventions; Sarnit Karunyavanij, business development director at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre, BITEC; and Srisakul Footrakulsak, sales manager of the convention and exhibition section at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort and Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall (PEACH).
Each team submitted a concept to the committee, and Kasetsart University’s Sriracha campus was voted first. Kasetsart now goes on to the final round.
The finals, with 10 selected teams from across the country, will meet on March 10 at Impact Muangthong Thani in Bangkok. The winning team will receive 30,000 baht in scholarships, plus an educational visit abroad. The runners up in order will receive 20,000 baht in scholarships and 10,000 baht in scholarships. There is also a 5,000 baht consolation prize.

A day with the kids at the Fountain of Life Center

Over the nine years that the Jesters ‘Care for Kids’ Charity Drive has supported the Fountain of Life center there have been numerous Pattaya Mail press reports and Pattaya Mail television coverage of special activities and events, such as dental care & treatment for the kids, Loy Kratong celebrations, Christmas parties and so on.

On the Jesters blue bus at 7.30 a.m. and a round circuit of the greater Pattaya area to pick up the kids waiting at the roadside.
Support for the Fountain of Life comes from a number of sources including the Pattaya International Ladies Club, Caritas Switzerland, but mostly from the Jesters ‘Care for Kids’ Charity Drive that donated over 3.2 million baht in 2006. This money covers the majority of the Center’s operational expenses providing documentation, education, scholarships, medical and dental treatment and care for slum kids from broken families.
So much good work is done by the Good Shepherd Foundation through Sisters Joan and Jiemjit, Kru Wanni and staff, and outside volunteers like the tooth fairy Ingrid Cunliffe and activity games specialist Lynne Mackintosh, that it seemed like a good idea, and possibly an eye-opener, to spend a whole day with the kids to share the experience and care that the Center offers them five days a week.

Once on the bus the kids’ happy day began - singing and laughing all the way.

And what a day it was! On the Jesters blue bus at 7.30 a.m. and a round circuit of the greater Pattaya area to pick up the kids waiting at the roadside. And some with no shoes. But once on the bus, and with the camera running, their happy day began - singing and laughing all the way. At the 9 a.m. assembly the 136 kids brought in split into their four age group classes, the youngest 3-4 years, and the routine activities of the day began … For more, and the story of the whole day, tune in to PMTV for a two part feature being aired Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th February.
The Sisters and staff at the Center can be justly proud of what they do for the kids and the caring way that they do it. Wearing my honorary Jesters hat, the Charity Drive committee can be equally proud of providing ‘Care for Kids’ funds for nine years to enable it to happen and, in our 10th Jesters Charity Drive year, working to raise even more money for it to continue.
