Silk from four Issan provinces were on display at Central
Festival Pattaya Beach where officials from the region turned out to promote
tourism to the northeast.
The “Silk Road to Nakhon Chai Burin” exhibit Jan. 19-23
showcased locally made silk products from the “Chai Burin” region,
comprising Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Burirum and Surin.
Chonburi Deputy Governor Pakarathorn Tianchai said
homespun silk from Issan has been favored by royalty for centuries due to
its splendid patterns and sophisticated weaving.
The exhibit also featured cultural shows, including Issan
music and dance; a silk-weaving demonstration and other exhibits.

The
expert weaver demonstrates how the world famous Thai silk is hand woven.
Visitors
young and old watch how an expert uses natural plants to give Thai silk its
distinctive and gorgeous colours.
