Thousands of people will gather on Beach Road to
honor HM the King May 31 as part of Chonburi’s recruitment of more than
120,000 “volunteers to protect the monarchy.”

The nationwide Interior Ministry program aims at
staging a number of events between now and the king’s Dec. 5 birthday to
honor the monarch on his 84th, 12th cycle birthday.
Chonburi Gov. Wichit Chatpaisit presided over an
organizational meeting for Chonburi volunteers April 22. To date, the
province has recruited 120,029 volunteers from the province’s 11
districts and divided them into 69 clubs with 13,841 people trained as
group leaders.
Interior Ministry officials will host the first of
the nationwide gatherings in Bangkok May 5 with 5,500 people expected to
attend.
The Pattaya Beach Road event is scheduled for 2 p.m.
on May 31 and will include a video about the responsibilities of being a
monarchy protecting volunteer, parade featuring army and navy personnel
and other activities.
