(seated, 2nd left) were caught up in the latest police raid on Tukcom
Pattaya.
Boonlua Chatree
Chonburi police staged another in their sporadic
raids of South Pattaya’s Tukcom shopping mall, this time arresting
merchants of knock-off mobile phones and perfumes, while leaving movie,
software and music pirates alone.
The June 14 crackdown came only after complaints from
vendors of legitimate phones and colognes.
Chatchai Yaikrathok, 24, was caught sitting behind
the counter of his Garfield phone booth where police apprehended him
with four fake Apple iPhones, a pair of bogus Ferrari-branded handsets
and several other knockoffs.
Amporn Kongkaew, 32, was arrested in possession of
eight copied Nokia and Sony-Ericsson phones and Taksin Juranon, 50, was
caught with four bottles of fake perfume.
Police apparently weren’t interested in going up three floors where
merchants sell copied DVDs, CDs and computer software on a daily basis.
