‘Pattaya White’ anti-drug program kicks off 2nd year

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome leads the opening parade for this year’s ‘Pattaya White’ anti-drug program. This year’s slogan is “work hard, work fast and work creatively” and organizers have planned activities along those themes.

Area officials kicked off the second year of their “Pattaya White” anti-drug campaign, which will see activities planned for both youths and adults over the coming months.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome led a parade of students, community leaders, government workers, police and soldiers from Central Festival Pattaya Beach to Beach Road’s intersection with Central Road. Politicians and community leaders then led a two-hour lesson and rally at the activity stage there.
The goal of the “Pattaya White” project is to bring community members closer, strengthen families and encourage all residents to use their free time productively, learn the value of education and develop a balanced and sustainable community. Started amid political upheaval, the focus has now turned to quashing drug use among youths.
This year’s slogan is “work hard, work fast and work creatively” and organizers have planned activities along that those themes. Activities will be held through November at Pattaya schools No. 2, 7, 8 and 11.
“Work Hard,” will see students and teachers create an exhibition board and campaign signs that can be displayed in shops around town.
“Work Fast” will feature students and community members coming together to clean schools and strengthen the relationship between schools and the community.
“Work Creatively” calls for dancing and singing contests to help youths use their free time productively. A finale will be held to award prizes in three age categories next year.
Adults, meanwhile, will receive training on a “neighborhood watch”-like system. The two-day, one night minicamps will be run by the Thappraya civil-defense volunteer squad in January and February. Participants will work on their reading skills, public speaking techniques, principles and techniques to hold cooperative meetings narrated by decorated individuals to solve community problems.

(L to R) MC ‘DJ Jaydai’ (Setsith Limkasidej) from Chill FM89 talks with Jirapreeya “Bream Rattanun” from Pattaya School #7 and Mooknaree “Pookpick” Prathumsawat from Aksorn Suksa School about this year’s slogan: “work hard, work fast and work creatively”.
