Burglars got away with more than 60,000 baht after breaking into the
Pattaya home of a British restaurant owner.
John Robert Cook, 68, called police after interrupting the July 26 burglary
at his single-story home in The Village on Third Road. Police arrived to
find the house torn asunder and a safe opened and emptied.
Cook, the owner of the Chaosoi Chinese restaurant on Soi Buakaow, said he
arrived from work to find two Thai men in his living room. Neither were
masked and he told police he could provide descriptions.
Cook was followed as he fled into the bedroom and said one suspect
threatened him with a stun gun before forcing him to open the safe. About
50,000 baht and 8,000 Philippine pesos were taken. The robbers then took
another 7,000 baht and a smartphone from him.
Cook, who rents the house, said he now plans to move.
