The Department of Special Investigations raided the Vitamax mall,
seizing 100 million baht in illegally imported drugs, food supplements
and cosmetics.
The task force, which also included the Chonburi Employment Department,
also arrested 22 Russian tour guides and four Cambodians for allegedly
working in the kingdom without work permits.
The Dec. 23 raid at the Soi Bunkanjanaram 2 mall came after complaints
from Thai travel agents that Russians were stealing their jobs as tour
guides by working illegally for travel businesses set up under a Thai
nominee.
DSI officials said they’d also received information that Vitamax
contained numerous stalls selling items that were illegally imported
and/or did not comply with Thai food, drug and cosmetics laws.
Vitamax Director Yosavaj Harnthanaprasert, 56, and General Manager
Patanan Testhamwitid, 30, were arrested.
