Events

The next Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) meeting will be on Sunday, Jan. 26. Everyone is warmly welcome. The speaker will be Paul Strachan to talk about TFI (Thai Farang Initiative) which has been set up by a few likeminded people working in Pattaya to create fun and exciting events for charity. The Club meets every Sunday morning at the Tavern by the Sea restaurant located on the north end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort). The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9 to 11 a.m.

The next Pattaya International Ladies Club meeting will be held at the Cape Dara Hotel, Naklua Soi 20 on Tuesday, February 4. In celebration of His Majesty King Bhumibol’s 86th birthday, world famous guitarist Hucky Eichelmann will be performing a charity concert at 8 p.m. on 25th of January. The concert is presented by Pattaya Mail Media Group and Amari Orchid Pattaya in co-operation with Skål International Pattaya & East Thailand. The 2014 PTT Pattaya Open, WTA professional women’s tennis tournament is scheduled to take place from 26 January - 2 February 2014 at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya. An exciting line-up of stars is in place for the 23rd edition of the tournament, which is one of the longest running events on the WTA Tour. The annual Pattaya Bed Race will take place on Sunday, January 26 starting at 4 p.m. outside the Central Festival shopping mall on Beach Road. The course will take teams of up to 6 members each along the sea-front to the finish line at Walking Street. Entertainment for spectators will also be provided by on stage acts and live music.

The 4th TFI charity night event takes place on Saturday 1st Feb from 7 p.m. at Access Inn on Pattaya 3rd Road at the junction with Soi Lengkee. The theme for this event will be “Top of The Pops” featuring the best music from 1980 all the way up to 2013. Tickets cost 400 baht in advance or 500 baht on the door and include a free-flow of bottled San Miguel Light and Heineken (while stocks last). Food snacks will also be on sale at the venue. The culture of northeastern Thailand will come to life in Pattaya for three nights at the Issan Festival 2014 from March 7-9 on Pattaya Third Road. The event will feature a parade, performances from actor Nadej Kokimiya and country music singer Ying Lee, general Issan music, and sales of northeastern products. The event will also showcase a “phi ta khon” scary-ghost dance competition with winners receiving more than 100,000 baht in prizes. Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to AIDS patients at Phra Bat Numpu Temple in Saraburi.

For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community.
