Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center handed out awards to patients
who overcame and controlled their diabetes on World Diabetes Day.
Hospital deputy director Nut Isarangkul Na Ayutthaya presided over the
Nov. 14 event.
Diabetes clinic chief Yhing Nonglak Singhgowint said the World Health
Organization established the diabetes day in 1991 to campaign for
prevention of the disease and advertise its detrimental health effects.
Queen Sirikit has treated more than 3,000 diabetes patients and 1,000
more at risk of the disease, doctors said. The clinic works with
patients to prevent occurrences and manage symptoms.
Nut Isarangkul pointed out that diabetes can lead to macular
degeneration, kidney failure, heart disease, stroke and foot ulcers.
