City Manager announces Loy Krathong festivities
Somsak Yomjinda, Pattaya’s City Manager, said that the 24th of November will
be the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, and thus another romantic Loy
Krathong festival will arrive.
In order to conserve Thai culture and improve tourism, the city will be
holding a Loy Krathong Festival, with activities for everyone. There will be
a Krathong making competition and many performances and festivals throughout
the city celebrating Thai culture. There will be movies, music and Likay (a
traditional Thai song and dance theatre which is of Muslim origins). To add
spice to the gentle festival there will be a Thai boxing competition.
There will then be a Krathong floating festival which will be sponsored by
the city. Krathongs will be given to tourists free of charge. Mr. Somsak
continued that, due to the economic situation, this year’s Loy Krathong
festival will be quite ‘compact’.
