Nov. 17 - Day off to vote
The Ministry of the Interior is encouraging employers to
allow employees time off to vote at the polls where they are registered, in
accordance with the Royal Decree proclaiming this right. In 1989 His Majesty
the King declared that “All employers must offer their employees all
convenience in exercising their right to vote and run for office... If this
right is denied, the employer faces no more than 2 years in prison and a
fine of no more than 20,000 baht.”
So that no employers inadvertently break The King’s Laws, the Ministry of
The Interior is making this announcement at this time. This law applies to
all employees and employers, no matter what type of business they are
engaged in.
