youngsters in southern provinces to learn about life and how to become good
leaders to benefit their communities.
Dr. Wongphum Wanasin, president of the Youth Leadership Development
Foundation, said the “San Jai Thai Su Jai Tai” course was a success as
youngsters received direct occupational knowledge from experts..
Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn
opens the camp. All of the students became friends even though they didn’t come from the
same provinces and knew how to help each other. Young people from the south
could leave knowing that they were not alone but that they had people
supporting them from all of Thailand, he said.
Suriya Chorborngor who attended the course said that it was a good project
that gave him an opportunity to meet new friends, join in activities and
learn about hotel work which will be an occupational choice in future.
Before the course he was afraid to stay with other people because he
couldn’t speak Thai correctly with the central accent. But he found that
this was not a problem as all became friends.
Youth representatives say
thank you.

Nagas MC and Jesters Care
for Kids in joint venture
Members of the Nagas MC
and Jesters present a cheque for 200,000 baht to assist the Children’s
Ward at Chonburi General Hospital.
Lewis Underwood
On Friday, October 24, the Nagas MC and Jesters Care for Kids
Charity Drive joined forces to assist the Children’s Ward at Chonburi
General Hospital. The presentation took place at the club bar of the
Nagas MC in Sriracha when a cheque for 200,000 baht was handed over to
hospital management for the purchase of infant incubators and
defibrillators. In fact, it was learned that recently a child fatality
at the hospital might have been averted had there been one of these
devices on hand.
The Nagas MC, loyal supporters of the Jesters Care for Kids Charity
Drives since 2005, have been Platinum Sponsors, or 100,000 baht donors,
for the last 3 years. This year they chose to have their donation go to
the Chonburi General Hospital Children’s Ward after hearing of their
dire need for essential equipment. The Jesters decided to match their
contribution with an additional 100,000 baht for this worthy cause.
This year the Jesters Care for Kids Charity Drive raised over 8 million
baht for underprivileged children in Thailand.
RYLA youth visit
Nong Nooch garden
Patcharapol Panrak
A big contingent of youngsters participating in the Rotary Youth
Leadership Awards (RYLA) training went from their holiday camp in
Sattahip to learn about plants, enjoy Thai dancing and say hello to the
elephants at the vast Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden in Najomtien
Sub-district.
Capt.
Sanit Boonpuan, president of the Sattahip Rotary Club presents a token
of thanks to a representative of Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, thanking
them for hosting the future leaders.
Led by Capt. Sanit Boonpuan, president of the Sattahip Rotary Club, and
camp trainers, 390 boys and girls, aged from 9 to 15 years, enjoyed
their visit to the garden, also known as Paradise on Earth, a 1500-rai
(600-acres) botanical garden which also puts on cultural shows for
visitors.
The RYLA group watched traditional dancing from the four regions and
modern performances on stage plus an “intelligent elephant” show.
For many children, it was their first visit to the largest botanical
garden in Southeast Asia, founded in 1980 by Nongnooch Tansacha.
The young visitors were welcomed by Manit Narinrak, assistant general
manager, who explained that the garden attracts many visitors, botanical
science students and others daily.
Capt. Sanit said the Sattahip Rotary Club was the host this year for the
RYLA project so that the youngsters were busy spending their school
holiday at their camp at the Marine Corps Training Center in Sattahip.
RYLA is Rotary’s leadership training program for young people
emphasizing leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to
demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth, provide an effective
training experience for selected youth and potential leaders, encourage
leadership of youth by youth and recognize publicly young people who are
rendering service to their communities.
It’s a slam dunk success
in honor of the young leaders.
