The 2010 Pattaya Vegetarian Festival is currently taking place from October 7-17 and includes traditional lion dance performances, Chinese martial art displays, concerts, competitions, and numerous parades throughout Pattaya city center. A final procession will take place on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 17 to mark the end of the festival, starting from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation Grounds and moving to the Larn Pho Yard where a holy water ceremony will be held. Traffic restrictions and road closures are likely to occur during the 10 day event when parades and concerts take place. The Chonburi Buffalo Racing Festival 2010 will be held at the Chonburi Provincial and District Fields from October 16-22. The week-long event will feature buffalo races in four separate categories based on the sizes of the animals and jockeys. As in previous years, along with the racing there will also be numerous merchandise stalls, games, activities, traditional exhibits and beauty pageants to keep everyone entertained. This year organizers also plan to include a variety of concerts by well-known Thai artists from the country and pop music scene. AustCham Thailand will be holding an Eastern Seaboard Sundowners networking event on Friday, Oct. 15 at the Amari Orchid Resort & Tower in Pattaya starting at 6 p.m. The cost is 450 baht for members and 850 baht for non-members. To book online go to www.austchamthailand.com

The next meeting of Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) will be on Sunday, October 10, 2010. Everyone is warmly welcome. The scheduled guest speakers are Phadungphon Atthakitphaiboon and Pattaraporn Chantaramaha, Thai Attorneys practicing in Pattaya. Their topic will be Our Rights as Condo Owners including the Responsibilities of Condo Management. The Club meets every Sunday morning at The Tavern by the Sea Restaurant located on the North end of Beach Road (part of the Amari Orchid Resort). The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Each week the PCEC usually has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting. The program is followed by the ever lively and often humorous Open Forum where questions are asked and answers given about living in Pattaya as well as an update on events in and around Pattaya. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone. The next Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Gala Dinner will be held at the Mantra Restaurant on Tuesday Oct. 19 featuring Michelin Star recipient and Berlin’s most celebrated chef Thomas Kammeier. The Pattaya Classical Guitar Festival 2010 will take place on Saturday 23 October and Saturday 30 October at the Siam Bayshore Resort & Spa in South Pattaya. The 2-day festival will feature performances by some world class guitarists as well as workshops and a guitar exhibition.
