City workers have begun cleaning and securing the
beachfront as the area prepares for the Pattaya Music Festival March
30-April 1.
Sanitation Department Director Sompop Wandee led more
than 20 workers down Pattaya Beach Feb. 17 to plant cape lilies along the
footpath and attempted to use bricks to protect them from likely trampling.
Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome’s goal is to try to show Pattaya is an
environmentally conscious city.
Sompop said pinewood fences will also be installed along
the entire length of the beach and urged festival-goers to respect the
flowers.
He said the city also has allocated funds for toilet and
health facilities along the beach during the festival, which draws hundreds
of thousands of people annually and has been dubbed by some as the “Pattaya
international traffic jam.”
