Ladies club enjoys luncheon at Woodlands Resort

The Pattaya International Ladies Club (PILC) had a wonderful get-together recently with their monthly luncheon date at the Woodlands Resort & Spa, Naklua. F&B Director Stephane and his team put on a buffet spread, much appreciated by the members of the PILC group.

Helle Rantsén, the welfare chairperson, thanks the members who had attended the recent welfare tour, as President Gilliam Thom looks on.

“The food is fantastic, and thanks to all the team at Woodlands,” said Gillian Thom, president, in her opening remarks, before going on to bring the group up to date with all the latest activities. New members Donna Holzer from Australia and Amelia Palas-Cuniah from Portugal were welcomed to the club, whose total membership is now over 100 for 2006. “All nationalities are welcome, and the only criteria for joining is that you are female, and over 18!” said Jane Stanley, the membership chair. “This is a truly international club, and the different backgrounds of our members contribute to a great cross-cultural feeling.”
Helle Rantsén, the welfare chairperson, thanked the members who had attended the recent welfare tour. “For some, it is the first time they have seen what we are involved in, and a real eye-opener to some of the projects going on in the area.” She also revealed that one of the members and her husband are to make a large private donation to renovate a primary school in the Rayong area – watch this space for more details in due course!
Peggy Wragge, activities chair, has been busy organizing trips to Koh Si Chang, Bangkok and the River Kwai, and the next newsletter will have details of the overseas visits planned for later this year.
PILC meets every month on the first Tuesday for lunch, and the third Tuesday for coffee. There is also a newcomer’s coffee morning, held at Casa Pascal’s Restaurant, under the generous patronage of Kim and Pascal Schnyder, which is a perfect introduction to anyone new to the area. If you are interested in finding out more about the club, please contact Gillian Thom, president, on 01-7626003 or 038-756923, Nancy Bradburn, vice-president on 07-8129149 or 038-731108 or e-mail [email protected]

Narisa Nitikarn
Pattaya Sports Club on March 14 presented a donation of 401,000 baht to the Bangkok-Pattaya YWCA, at a meeting held at the Montien Hotel and presided over by YWCA president Nitaya Patimasongkroh.
Bernie Tuppin, PSC charity chairman, presented the funds. Part of the donation was an annual education grant, totaling 395,000 baht. A further 6,000 baht was donated to the Warm Family Day Project, making a grand total of 401,000 baht.
Nitaya said that Pattaya Sports Club has always provided good support to the association’s activities. Raising funds for underprivileged students is a three-year project, with the association committee selecting the secondary student awardees on the basis of merit and effort put into studies. Warm Family Day presents grants to all students and gives them a chance to meet the people who provided the grants.
The meeting fell on the birthday of Malinee Suwansaenee, vice chairperson of the Foster Child Care Program, and the event was celebrated in great style.
