Long-running road construction in the Bunkanchanaram Temple area is
70 percent complete and could be finished on time in October.
The laying of new storm-drainage pipes under a newly constructed,
steel-reinforced concrete road running from Soi Wat Boonkanjana 3 to Soi
Chaiyapruek 2 has neighbors complaining about traffic, dust and the long
duration of the work.
Contractors BS & BS began work March 26 and the 22.4 million baht project is
set for completion on Oct. 11, a company foreman said.
Currently, the construction has reached Boonkanjana Soi 5, with 800 meters
of work left to go. Pattaya has erected a sign in the area apologizing to
residents for the inconvenience.
Commuting in the area is laborious as the road has been reduced to one
usable lane. In addition, dirt clouds the air, forcing workers to repeatedly
spray water to keep the dust from annoying residents more than it does
already.
Resident Sum Nartchai said construction workers start in the morning and
work until 4-5 p.m. He said he thinks the project should have been finished
before now, but is trying to be patient as the long-term benefit to the area
should be a marked reduction in flooding.
